I'm sure a shutout of fricking Georgia State will keep that D motivated all year.

My point is that:

A) icing the kicker isn't even that big of a deal

And

B) I'm sure he had his reasons for doing it that are perfectly defensible

If you don't truly earn it, do you really get any joy out of it? I wouldn't

They should've let Georgia State win so the whole team could tell their kids about the time they won in Happy Valley

Don't see why James Franklin felt it was necessary to call timeouts, opponent still "playing" or not. The score was 56-0. Penn State is a top-5 team in the country squaring-up against Georgia State... Georgia State.

I'm not going to call it a disgrace, embarrassment, etc., etc., but put me in the camp that thinks Franklin should have been a bit more gracious in this situation.

He did what he thought was best to keep the other team from scoring. That shutout looks good on the scoreboard and PSU is slightly more likely to have their highlights on ESPN because of it. Franklin did his job.

This thread is stupid. You're down 56-0. Go for it. You have nothing to lose. Georgia State got what they deserved.

He explained why he did it in his post-game press conference. He had 4th stringers in on defense and he said the backup FG block team was having trouble lining up before he called timeout.
