Jags HC Marrone wants to "run the ball every play", wants Bortles to throw "zero passes"

Per Jags.com's John Oehser, Marrone "wasn't joking about this, and he wasn't smiling" when he spoke. "Zero," Marrone replied when asked how many times he wants Blake Bortles to attempt a pass each game. "I’d like to run the ball every play. I want to go back to the old way. I want to change the game." It's the same style of football Dallas and Tennessee have successfully implemented over the past few years. Leonard Fournette will be the centerpiece of the Jaguars' offense, and the weekly game plan will be to hide Bortles.

Per Rotoworld.

I guess he watched a lot of Blake Bortles film from last year.

If Bortles was my QB, I wouldn't want him throwing it either.

I'm sure he'd like to go undefeated tii but let's talk about reality.

They have some solid pieces on offense, minus the QB.

They have all those wins to go with it.

Don't forget Brandon Allen is on that roster. Would love to see him get a shot. He had the highest QBR in the NCAA his senior season in a prostyle offense against the best defenses.

It sounds crazy, but that style could be effective for small market teams. There is what, 5-8 elite QBs you can build a team around? Your chances of building a strong OL, and tapping into an over saturated RB market could bring in more success.

No QB will have better numbers than Bortles had if they threw the ball literally every play

minus the QB.

Bortles is serviceable. They just can't expect him to throw 40-50 times a game and be successful. If they can establish a running game and take some pressure off him to be the offense they could be a sneaky team in the South in a year or two.

Or get used and abused before his rookie contract is up.

Well, LF is used to no passing game. Did Jacksonville hire Les and Cam?

With a salary cap, a team's market size has no bearing on their ability to pay for a QB. Some of the best QBs are in small markets and vice versa. It's not like New York and LA can afford an elite QB while smaller markets like Indianapolis or New Orleans can't pay for one.

Listening to sports radio, I did hear one analyst saying that the Jags really like Allen. Maybe it'll work out for him.
