If he didn't have the injuries that essentially ended his career, he would have absolutely obliterated all of Jack's records.
If Tiger hadn't taken the shite that helped him be good he wouldn't have had the injuries.

Jack is head and shoulders above Tiger when it comes to accomplishments. Tiger will never catch him.

I'd replace Palmer and Watson with Ben Hogan and Bobby Jones.
Yep. Once Jones learned to control his temper, he became virtually unbeatable.
When you consider how close to crippled Hogan was after his accident and that back then they played 36 holes on the final day of a tournament, it is truly mind-boggling what he accomplished.
Give either of those guys today's equipment, and either one would dominate today just like they did then.

Give me a break with those who know nothing of golf pre-Woods.
Jack Nicklaus spent the first decade of his professional golf life raising a family and pulling a trailer from tournament to tournament while beating the likes of Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Lee Trevino -among others- using persimmon wood golf clubs. Also -like it or not, this is important- he was man enough to keep his dick out of the news.
Woods had $60MM in the bank from the likes of Nike before he even won a tournament and was babied, jetted, and probably roided, by an entourage from tournament to tournament where he could utilize drivers the size of toasters made out of space-age alloys.
And I never will forget that dumbshit Rick Reilly spouting off in the early 2000s that Woods was essentially greater that Nicklaus because of how much money he made - as if that is any measure of golf at all. Besides, much of the money Woods made was for his phony smile and his 'family values' - which is utter horse shite.
When Nicklaus took the stage, he credited his wife with most of his success.
"Were it not for Barbara, I would have been just another golfer," Nicklaus said. "People have asked me to quantify Barbara's importance in my career. I'd have to say she's responsible for at least 15 major championships. I'll give myself credit for three."
While Woods' can probably give his wife credit for ending his run of majors after she found out that he didn't know how to keep his wick dry, he will never be as great as Jack and, IMO, would regularly lose to Jack face-to-face in their prime for one very simple reason: he was not and will never be even half the man Nicklaus was.

Nicklaus is the greatest.
46 times he finished 1, 2 or 3 in the Majors with 18 wins, 19 runnerup, 9 third place finishes, 56 top 5s, 73 top 10s.
Woods: 14 wins, 6 seconds, 4 thirds, 31 top 5s, 38 top 10s.
And Jack was playing against: Gary Player (nine major wins), Tom Watson (eight), Arnold Palmer (seven), Lee Trevino (six) and Seve Ballesteros (five). Hell, Johnny Miller had 2 majors and three runners up at the Masters in a 10 year period (71-81).

Better career - Jack
Better at their peak and 2nd best career - Tiger

Props.
I'll add his idiot family, primarily his dad, calling Tiger the "Chosen One" saying he will do more good for humanity than anybody in history is sickening. Tiger eagerly embraced it.
I'm happy karma has gotten the best of that pos.

if Nicklaus choose to leave Ohio State - the same time as Woods left Stanford - Nicklaus would have had two more years of pro golf.
Nicklaus won US Am twice. He finished 2nd to Palmer in the US open one of the years he qualified by winning US Am.
Therefore, Nicklaus is still better.

If you look at it in terms of the HOF players Jack beat and if you guess who will make it from Tiger's era, it's not even close.
Posted on 9/28/16 at 11:20 am to RegisteredPharmacist
IIRC, Jack said Tiger was better.
Posted on 9/28/16 at 11:26 am to RegisteredPharmacist
Better golfer Woods but better golf career Jack. Tiger played an entire season at something like +10.

Gotta agree, Jack was my hero....but in their primes I think Woods would take more from Jack than Jack from Tiger.
We will never know what a 28 year old Jack would do with 2016 clubs and balls. I'm still amazed that Sam Snead hit 300 yard drives with those old persimmon woods.

Palmer and Watson are not Top-5 greats. Sorry.
It's
Nicklaus (1)
Tiger (1a)
Jones
Hogan
^Mt. Rushmore
Then there's a group from 5-15 that are a little harder to rank, arguments for an against all of them.
Hagen
Snead (not enough majors, no US opens)
Palmer
Nelson
Vardon
Player
Bobby Locke
Sazazen
Watson
Phil (yes Phil.. Top 10 all time in tour wins, T-12 in majors)
Seve

I grew up in the Jack days as well and bull shite Nicklaus was better.
I also grew up in the Nicklaus era. He faced stiffer competition and played with inferior equipment compared to what Woods played with.
Besides, Tiger was/is a prick and Jack was/is a gentleman on/off the course.

There are many more peers of Nicklaus on that list than Woods.

I was at the game when Nicklaus dotted the "I". Great experience.

either player or snead is #5 ... snead is usually the fifth one and is usually ranked 4th, ahead of jones ...
palmer and watson are nowhere close to the top 5 as golfers ...
