On the day his childhood idol A-Rod announced his retirement, Machado is putting on a peak A-Rod type performance.

Saying that Altuve is well on his way to Rose's record is crazy, but saying he isn't in the convo is just as crazy.

Player B: .319 BA, 124 hits, 25 doubles, 3 triples, 21 HR, 17 stolen bases, .431 OB%, .560 slg, .991 ops

Player A is Altuve. Player B is Trout.

How is Altuve not in the conversation when he has better stats?

What he meant to say is that HE doesn't belong in the conversation.

another couple hits today for mighty man jose. Has anybody had as many hits as jose in as many seasons as he's played to start a career? Probably ichiro but he wasn't really a rookie like jose was when he came up, so anyone else?

Let's not forget jose is like 5'5 and doing everything trout is doing while having the body of your avg female, this is just incredible stuff homer or not.

Player a plays second. Player b plays center field. Big difference.

The conversation begins and ends with Mike trout.

i mean he really doesnt. i will keep harping on how ISO is a better slugging metric than slugging percentage, which trout is ahead of altuve in, and he gets on base more even with his batting average being 20 points lower than altuves. he is worth more WAR and has a higher wRC+

altuve is absolutely in the conversation for best player in baseball, but that distinction is still comfortably trouts for now

Actually id say that getting that kind of production out of a 2nd baseman is way more valuable than getting it out of a center fielder

Wait, what? Getting that production at a premium defensive position like center of way more valuable.

Because best player doesn't stop at just hitting.

You're wrong.

"Value" is a term that corresponds to the player's worth to the team.

Historically, CF production will be better than second base.

In other words, a team getting Altuve production from second that gets average CF production will be better off than a team getting Trout production with an average 2nd baseman.

But, I'm not expecting someone that dismisses the notion that Altuve is the MVP as a worthy discussion to comprehend this, so carry on.

Here are the slash lines for 2B and CF this year:

2B: .269/.328/.422 100 wRC+
CF: .256/.323/.403 94 wRC+

So getting Trout's production with an average 2B is actually more valuable that Altuve and an average CF.
