I think it's a good thing for their program, They have a chance to be dominant in that conference.

And they didn't in the Big Twelve? It's like the exact same, nearly.

I don't see Va Tech coming without Virginia. When the ACC expanded, I remember the Virginia state legislature getting involved to make sure Va Tech was added.

NC State would be a possibility, but I don't see UNC coming due to the basketball rivalry with Duke (and I certainly don't see Duke being invited).

VT would leave without VA if it meant more money. They would only go if other ACC teams came, though, IMO. Duke, UNC, VT and FSU makes the most sense to me.

Duke would be a good compliment to Vandy, but the question I have about Duke and even UNC is would all of their sports remain if they moved conferences (lacrosse for example)?

I'd be willing to bet that Slive and the powers-that-be have a plan and/or something up their sleeves already.

The "wait and see" approach is not entirely without merit. SEC is THE conference that all others are striving to emulate. Only reason Pac-10 is trying to get to 16 teams is because they need that many teams to be on par financially with the SEC.

Screw it...let Texas go independent and we'll take the rest of the Texas schools and OU, Kansas.

There's your super-conference!!!!

And if the landscape were to shift that way...they'd have their asses waxed in their CG every year.

Jerry Jones is probably already getting that championship game on lockdown.

I would love if some Oklahoma or Kansas schools joined the SEC... I would be able to go watch some LSU games in person without having to drive way the hell down south

So if all these super-conferences are formed do you think there will be more BCS Champs with 2 losses?

If the Orangebloods report is true, then it looks like the SEC will be left out of any expansion westward, since A&M, OU and Texas will all be going to the Pac Ten. So, I guess it's look to the east or stand pat.

I still think TCU would be a good pickup. Sure they don't have the numbers like A&M but there sports program is better at this point and A&M hasn't shown any signs of increasing performance

I wonder if the SEC gets an obvious 3 in (GT, Clem, FSU) and if Missouri is left hanging... I think a case can be made that they are a better catch/fit than a school like Miami. The proximity is far from ideal, but...

Miami and Florida State need to join the SEC. That would equal the most dominant conference EVER.

It would make more sense to move Tennessee to the West than Kentucky. Tennessee had long-time historical rivalries with Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss until expansion put them in different divisions. Their only traditional historical rivalries in the East are Vandy and Kentucky.

ETA: But of course then the East would be really weak in football, with Duke, Vandy and Kentucky all in it. But they'd be a beast in basketball with Duke, UK and UNC.

This is all about the money and that means football. The outcome will have more to do about a school's following than the current strength of their program.

The Texas schools left the old SWC back in the 80s over money. They left the small schools with small fan base behind (SMU, TCU, Houston and Rice). Ditto here (Iowa State, K State, Kansas, Baylor)

I do not see SEC picking up any of these leftovers(no offense to anyone).

SEC has no need to hurry but will start looking around. I expect they already have a list of schools and have already had discussions with several schools over interest. FSU, Clemson are obvious potential candidates. Nothing wrong with having 14 teams. Also, I would be surprised if we have heard the last of discussion of teams to PAC10.

This whole expansion business has nothing to do with quality of athletics and everything to do with increasing revenue (tv-market). TCU is perhaps not a viable option for SEC in that regard

With UF and USCe already delivering most of FL and SC market how does including FSU+Clemson help. SEC does any thing at all, it will probably be courting VTech and UNC so that they can go into newer markets.

No one is considering another scenario, the current 12 team SEC might actually be able to command similar money compared to expanded Big 10/Pac 10. If that is the case, why expand?

More sports? Really? As if this has no impact on LSU? This has a ton of impact on every major conference school, and LSU and the SEC has been mentioned in this thread numerous times.
