I'd rather see a mid or lower major conference champion in the tournament than the 8th place team in the SEC.

yeah, they tried to get as far away from G-town's defenders on the 3 perimeter and Zo still partially blocked the long-range shot.

FGCU would be worth watching if they weren't playing UNC. I think UNC is the most talented team in the whole tournament and the toughest out if they feel like defending.

There's never a good chance that a 16 will be a 1 seed, but if it's going to happen this year, watch for Southern vs. Oregon (assuming Southern can win tonight)

Oregon is the weakest of the #1 seeds and they aren't a great defensive team. Defense travels, while offense can come and go. Plus, unlike KU, UVA, UNC, their guys have never dealt with this kind of expectation. Southern has played a relatively tough schedule and performed relatively well for a SWAC team in their OOC games beating Miss. St. and Wyoming on the road, and losing in the final minute at Memphis.

While State, Wyoming and Memphis aren't anywhere close to as good as Oregon, I don't think Southern would be overwhelmed. Remember, they damn near beat 1 seed Gonzaga 3 years ago. That was a team, like Oregon, who was sailing in uncharted waters with expectations of a Final Four. Who knows!!!

Not out of the question at all
yes it is

LSU was terrible down the stretch this season. The P5 conferences aren't really "Power" conferences in basketball either. The SEC is terrible at basketball. Terrible.

If they wanted to see it potentially happen, and still use a team with a shitty resume then they could have threw in LSU as a 16 seed. Has there been a more talented team just fail to go post season bound when not on probabtion?

Quoted for truth.
Cinderella is much more appealing than an underachieving power conference team.

That's actually an interesting point because from my memory the committee has never done that...

It's like they have a cut-off line for big conference teams...

If they aren't good enough to be a 9-10 seed...they are out.

But it would have been funny as hell to see a team with LSU's potential and talent get seeded a #16 and see the look on Virginia's teams face as it unfolded.

Thing is, LSU couldn't get up for A&M in what was a lose or go home game. So now after they blew their first two chances to get into the tourney (losing to UK to end the season, losing in the Conference tourney) so they should just reward them? Seems kinda stupid IMO. They were absolutely abused in their last two games against Tourney teams as it is.

I dont think you get in for winning your conference. You get in for winning your conference tournament which is a load of shite. It should be winning the regular season conference. Imagine missouri winning the tourney and getting an automatic spot after being so shitty the whole year. You just need luck for a few games to win the tourney

Then what's the point of winning the conference regular season?

LSU sucks and they stopped actually playing ball 3 weeks ago. Has Ben been to class at all this entire semester?

Going with the hypothetical, virginia would obviously be super pissed.

Then they would come out and wax LSU by 20 and get ready for Saturdays game against an actual team

This is not a NCAA rule, btw. This is at the discretion of the conference. Each individual conference can decide if its autobid goes to the regular season champ or tourney champ.
