Is there any doubt that a potential KC/HOU game will be Saturday Afternoon?

No way Redskins (NFC East), Packers, or Steelers (vs. Bengals) get that spot.

If Denver wins, of course.

Isn't the Saturday afternoon game the ESPN game? I'm sure it'll be Chiefs-Texans.

I mean, do you want that game in prime time? I know you're just crying about the NFC east again but I don't see the point

Might be the first game Sunday. I would expect the Packers or Steelers to get the Saturday primetime game. But I think Sunday is a noon game and a 3pm game.

Hou-KC is almost a lock for first game saturday.

Right now I'd guess

Hou-Kc Sat game 1
GB-Sea Sat game 2

Wash-Minn Sun game 1
Cincy-Pitt Sun game 2

If those indeed end up being the matchups

Doesn't it rotate by seeds? Last year, NFC 5 vs 4 game was the first game. This year I think it'll be AFC 6 vs 3 (Pittsburgh at Cincinnati/KC). Next year it would be NFC 6/3 and then the year after it would be AFC 5/4.

I'll have to check the history. I know they always do one game from each conference on each day but I always assumed the time slots depended on TV and time zones.

There's no rhyme or reason to what games are played when. I learned that the hard way when I got married Jan 16 2010 at 2pm

I'm not crying. I'm just stating facts. The Texans got that spot the last two times they made the playoffs. The Chiefs have gotten it a couple of times too.

If the Seahawks and Packers don't match up, most of the matchups are pretty meh for me.

Yes there is on Wild Card Weekend. Television tells them which games go where. Look it up. Primetime and Sunday afternoon are always the "best" games, meaning big-market/high-profile teams.

Last year the Steelers got the Saturday primetime spot and the Cowboys got the Sunday afternoon primetime lead-in on Fox. What did you think Fox wanted last year to lead into their primetime lineup? The Cowboys vs. anybody, or Panthers/Cardinals?

This year, CBS gets the primetime lead-in. The Steelers will likely get that spot. NBC will pick the NFC game that doesn't involve the Vikings for the Saturday primetime spot.

Saints played at the 7-9 Seahawks in the early Saturday spot in 2010. The only other division champ in history with a losing record (last year's Panthers) got that spot last year.

I think this used to be the case when the games were at 12:30 and 4:00. Now that the games have later start times, I don't think this matters as much.

They won't put a home team from the mountain or pacific time zone on the 1:00 pm Sunday game to avoid a 10 or 11am local kick.

Good point. I don't think it matters for wild card weekend anyway. The home teams are Houston, Cincy, Washington, and the Green Bay-Minnesota winner. That means they don't have to consider time zones. They can just give the best games the best slots.

They've never done that before. Fox got that coveted NFC East tie in.

So CBS and Fox get both late games. Interesting wrinkle.
