Is there a scenario the Texans let A.J. Bouye go?

I've been reading articles suggesting there's a price a team could offer him that the the Texans would be unwilling to match. I can't imagine someone offering him more than 14 million per year, which means matching any offer he gets is very attainable. Texans can save 6.5 million in cap by cutting Johnathan Joseph. It would be highly illogical that the Texans would let A.J. Bouye (25 yo) go and keep Johnathan Joseph (32 yo) other than for immediate cap space and that's way too much short term thinking.

I would agree, but that's unfortunately not going to stop a team from overpaying for him. Shut down corners in their prime are worth spending the extra dollars on, especially ones you luckily get as an UFA.

I wouldn't put anything past Rick Smith. But if they pay Bouye that much after one season, It wouldnt' shock me at all. But 14 for Bouye? No, I'm not sold on him being worth half that right now.

Probably depends on if they make a move for someone to start over Brock.

No corner is worth $14 million per year.

NFL front offices strongly disagree.

Don't see a one year wonder getting much over 10 mil a year. Shoot didn't Revis' last big contract garner 16?

The cap keeps going up. $14 million now isn't the same as $14 million 2 years ago.

Josh Norman is probably the best comparison you can make of the situation and he got 15 million on the open market

This is why I thought 14 was the maximum realistic number. If he hits the free market I could see a team going balls to the wall to get a young up and coming corner and paying the hell out of him. The thing is, if Bouye continues his dominance 14mil a year is totally worth it, so it's not like it's completely unjustified. I don't want to let him go. I'd so much rather move on from Johnathan Joseph and spend another high draft pick on a DB.

If I was the Texans I'd be very tempted to trade Watt. The Texans are fine on the d line and Watts back troubles are a true concern. If you can trade Watt and free up a lot of cap space I think it'd be a great move. The huge issue though is the guy is essentially a god in Houston and the Texans would lose a lot of money off merchandise and branding.

Pre-mature gotta see what he does next season to even consider trading him. If he can even play 75% of his full go he's a top 10 DE.

Thing is if he gets hurt again next year or his play diminishes all of his trade value goes away. If you trade him now he still has a very high value.

I hope not but I would be surprised to see him in a Texans uniform next season.

I'd start Bouye over Brock at this point. Couldn't be too much worse.

He makes too much for the team as the face of the franchise. I do fear the back issues are going to do him in though. Really tough when your back isn't right to ever be yourself again.

I agree, but NFL front offices will pay it. I am always wary of NFL free agents that get paid huge money like this especially non-QBs. I feel like huge free agent contracts like these are almost always huge disappointments.

The Texans would have to get a shite ton to trade watt.

If he is 70% of what he was, the defense is best defense in league next year. They would have two DEs that command double teams. Absolutely filthy and impossible to deal with especially if they can find a good nose in the draft.

You cannot overvalue forcing teams to block 3 with 5 linemen

They might as well just try to be the early 2000s Baltimore ravens or Tampa
