I'm sure this would be a talking point (I remember Al Davis wanted to block the Panthers from having black and silver as two of their colors) - when the Texans chose navy and red there were a ton of teams with those colors as well - Buffalo (now rebranded to royal and red), NY Giants, New England. Hell, even Tennessee has navy and red in their color scheme.

Didn't John Mecom want the Saints to wear light blue, and the NFL asked him not to do it because it was too close to the Chargers?

As far as the OP, I agree--they need to change it back to the Oilers. Screw Bud Adams.

As a general rule, if a team moves it would be nice if a condition of the move was that the original location retains the name and history.

The NFL team in Houston should be the Oilers, the NBA team in New Orleans should be the Jazz, etc.

I am not a particular fan of the team, but I thought it was really cool when Charlotte got the Hornets name back. I also think the Browns name is dumb, but I think it is the right call that Cleveland has that name. If Montreal ever gets another MLB team I hope they can be the Expos if they want (and I am a Nats fan).

There are two reasons Cleveland got the Browns back:

1) Modell was in violation of a lease agreement and had to go along with that deal to avoid a long court battle

2) Baltimore fans were sympathetic to Cleveland because of the Colts, so they supported the deal. That allowed Baltimore to get a team without screwing another city the way they got screwed.

Interestingly, in the 1990s the Irsays wanted a new stadium in Indianapolis and were having some trouble. They started talking to Cleveland. If they had moved there, they would have become the Browns and the Ravens would have taken the Colts name, logo, and history.

I've heard some older fans say they don't want the Oilers name back because Bud Adams was such an a-hole that they feel like it's good riddance.

My favorite in the NFL. Those powder blue helmets with the white derrick are fricking sweet.

I would love to have the Oilers name back. The "Texans" is just weird considering all the state of Texas are considered "Texans".

Also, the Rangers need to to get rid of the "Texas" Rangers name. It doesn't make sense. Dallas Rangers will work just fine.

Texans is bland and kinda dumb. Oilers would be welcomed. Maybe one day.

Oilers has the best uniforms ever Houston needs get the name back.. I hated it when team got moved to TN and they did not allow the city to keep the name.. Owner if a team should not be allowed to keep the name if tied to city.. NFL really need work out the freaking team names and who owns the history etc before anymore teams gets added.

Few people would disagree with you. Maybe when Bud Adams dies things will change.
