It really just depends on the city.
Most of the Braves fan base lives in the suburbs and there are enough people there to fill the seats just as well as they would at Turner Field.
In most cases, the central location is best. You have all the bars and restaurants that are there anyway and the fans can find entertainment before and after the game instead of making a 2-3 hour round trip for a 3-hour game and nothing else.

Atlanta and Baltimore have two things in common
both are majority black and ghetto as frick

If it's a new trend, it's a tad late as most of the newer stadiums have not only been built in the city centers, but have also integrated the skylines and cityscapes into their designs. That's why TD Ameritard is all fricked-up. They were trying to emulate the MLB stadiums with the outfield opening up to the skyline. But they built it on the wrong side of the city, and now there's a constant headwind into the field.

The Palace has worked in the suburbs of Detroit, probably because of a lot of money out that way and because it holds lots of concerts. But, other than that and some outliers like Jerryworld, it seems like the burbs don't work well. Look at U of Phoenix or whatever that is, everyone concedes Glendale was a bad idea.

The new Braves stadium being successful relies on them being able to follow through with the development around the stadium itself. This isn't some place out in the middle of nowhere. There are many bars/restaurants etc to be able to drink at before and after the game. I have been past ATT park, 49ers stadium, Glendale and those ARE in the middle of nowhere. Vinings/Smyrna/Marietta is not.
Granted the perfect place would have been by Atlantic Station.

part of the fun of a stadium in the city is everyone from the burbs heading in the city and making a day of it all.
Come make a day of it in and around Turner Field!

Should build a football stadium at Buzzard Point near the new soccer stadium
but to OP
cities are the best places for ballparks for the majority of teams, but not for all.
The Braves are the exception

If only the Atlantic Steel plant closed 10 years earlier.

I disagree. Turner Field's out-of-the-way location and lack of earlier initiative by the CoA/Braves to develop the parking areas doomed it more that the Braves being located in the city proper. Had ACOG placed the Olympic Stadium closer to downtown or in the Atlantic Station area, we would not be having this conversation today.

well maybe so but at this point in time, it makes more sense for the Braves to be in the suburbs

Lol. Camden is in a phenomenal area. I loved the atmosphere there when I went.
This. The stadium is incredible and the inner harbor is really nice, it's not like it's in the ghetto.

Pretty tired of comments like this, I mean I could be wrong on this, but how much time have you spent in either of these areas? Sure if you want to walk downtown in Atlanta late at night, you're going to have some problems, but considering I have been a resident of New Orleans, Atlanta and Washington DC (spent a ton of time in Baltimore, but never lived there) they're like any other major cities, there are areas to avoid and there are areas that are extremely safe. It comes down to common sense and familiarity with the area, something most tourists don't have/won't acquire. On another note, I think for the most part suburb stadiums aren't a good idea, but for the Braves setting up in that Vinings area could work out very nicely. Turner Field has no where to eat/drink at outside the stadium, and would have never been able to convince anyone to open up a business in that area of the city. But with the Vinings area, fans can now atleast sit at some bars and restaurants in the hours leading up to the games. Traffic will be god awful.. But probably overall a better experience than Turner.

That isn't really the case at Turner Field though. There is nothing there either.
City parks are the best if done right, Turner Field wasn't.

2 things here:
1)Calling where the Braves are moving the "suburbs" is a stretch, they are literally 5min away from the heart of the city.
2)Almost any team would make a move like this if given the same deal the Braves got, $400M from the city.

Doesn't help the fanbase living in North Fulton, Gwinnett, or the east metro that has to now get stuck on I-285 during rush hour.

Not the Braves. They were promised by Atlanta that the area around Turner would be developed. They didn't keep their word, and the Braves told them to frick off.
