Is LA Tech women’s basketball the most random multiple championship program in any sport?

3 national championships, 5 runner ups, 13 final fours
Absolutely random
It’s too bad they fell off a cliff. No tournaments since 2011.

Leon Barmore was Geno of his time, hell of a recruiter and coach!

They were fortunate that one of the best coaches ever, technically the best winner ever in NCAA, was born and raised in Ruston.

Look up some of the hockey national champions. Denver has 8 titles. Minnesota-Duluth won back-to-back a few years ago.

Old Dominion women's hoops?

They would have more if they would have given Mulkey the 5 year contract she wanted back in the day instead of only offering 3. Idiots.

Yeah, they were dominant. I don’t know how they would be considered random. I guess just before the OP’s time.

No tournaments since 2011.

Cal St Fullerton and Wichita St in baseball
Gonzaga in men’s basketball. Doesn’t seem like it now, but UConn was a nobody until the 90s and then strung together 4 national titles

Disagree. The decline was a result of Barmore retiring and the AD screwing up by only offering Mulkey 3 years. If she was hired then, Tech never would’ve missed a beat.

Techsters fell off the cliff when La Tech Football thought they could be LSU. They decided to move up and they joined a conference. Before the conference the Lady Techsters were like ND Football. They played who and when. It was the best place for the best players because you were going to play the best Women's Basketball teams in the country. I Tech was #1 they scheduled 10 other teams in the top 25 before the tournaments started.

La Tech's run kinda coincided with the beginning of the Information Age (or whatever you want to call it). The money they made directly from women's basketball was minimal, probably still still lost money in the budget.
The indirect money they made from exposure on ESPN, Sports Illustrated and other national media publication way more than offset that.
As a high school kid in the 80's, I was a pretty big sports fan. I probably couldn't name all the teams in major football conferences, but knew the power teams. Same for men's basketball, I knew about teams that eventually consolidated into the Big East, etc.
And, I knew Louisiana Tech was THE big name in women's basketball. Later passed by Tennessee, which later gave way to UConn.
They were a known entity, just like Pele in soccer (which I never watched), etc. A name; LSU hit that status with college baseball. You might never hear about the rest of the sport, but you knew such-and-such was the big dog in it.
That status is valuable, and schools with way more resources now understand you can get it in obscure sports, so they do it. And La Tech can't compete anymore... if they'd never have fallen, then they could have stuck around. But now that they're down, the climb back is too much.

The Lady Techsters were amazing.
As a kid, I remember watching them play North Carolina in the Championship Game in 92 or 93.
Little school from Ruston.
