While having lived in Baton Rouge your whole life and having no inherent ties to either program?

Asking for a friend who's definitely not a bandwagoner.

Yes.

I'm a Lakers fan despite never being to LA or having any inherent ties to the Lakers

Its less likely that he is because of the circumstances but it's definitely possible

Sounds like you're a bandwagoner that just got started early and stayed on so long it would be foolish to jump now

That goes completely against the definition of bandwagoner...

I had no reason to like any team in the NBA. So I'm just supposed to root for nobody my whole life?

You seem to be more a fan of greatness than a fan of anybody particular.

No it doesn't. You joined as a bandwagoner and have stayed on. A bandwagoner isn't defined by how long he stays on the train but by when he hopped on

A bandwagoner by definition jumps on during the good times and jumps off during the bad times.

So unless you want to argue that the Lakers were good during the time between Shaq and Gasol or from the Gasol era to now then you have no argument.

Current Lakers fans aren't band wagoners because we've been arse for about 6 years now.

No, you're just supposed to realize at a certain point as your knowledge of the game progresses that you were just bandwagoning and perhaps then reconsider your unrequited loyalty. I thought I was a Bulls fan all through the 90's (born in '90), then I started to learn more about the game and realized my superficial fanship of a team in Chicago was nonsense.

That's the beauty of being a bandwagoner. No one publically announces when they are "through" with a team, so that person can always circle back around when that team regains power and claim to have been a lifelong fan.

Yes, and you can hedge your bets pretty easily that they will be a perenial powerhouse once again, so it's not like you're claiming to be a Toronto fan.

Do you honestly have a reason to still be a fan other than they had the most television coverage when you were growing up? Also if you grew up and live in Alabama this thread doesn't apply to you at all as there are no obvious pro teams for you to support.
