Kaylee Hartung just interviewed him on ESPN and he was slurring his words and looked very frail. Seemed like Corso has the last few years almost.

I would imagine that is a part of the decision.

He had a tumor removed last year from his throat/chest.

They say whatever he has, has not affected him as much this year, but he said he did not have the energy needed to be the head coach.

So, I think there is more to it.

Probably, dude is getting pretty old. He just turned 69. Very few should be coaching into thier 70s.

Not sure, but I will say this.. He was a terrific coach. He kept Va Tech being a respectable program during his tenure. His teams were never an easy win. They did the little things, tackle well, special teams, and just all around play rough and tough. Beamer

Have to say it will be weird watching VT on television and not seeing Beamer on the sidelines. I could certainly be wrong, but I don't recall VT ever having issues with the NCAA or anything like that. Also haven't heard people say negative things about Frank Beamer. Maybe a VT fan could shed some light on that, but Beamer seems to be a really good/respected guy.

From what I have heard 3rd hand, yes health is partially related. My buddy was a tech athlete, as was his roommate... and the roommate is still in the area and active with the boosters. He told me well over a month.5 ago the retirement was for sure coming. I wouldn't feel bad if they came through 1 for 2, cause cancer blows.

When Beamer took over, we were going through NCAA sanctions from the Bill Dooley era (more of the athletic dept than football) with reduced scholarships.

Beamer caught a lot of flack in the 90s for getting in borderline players, but he always gave people chances.
