Is Deion/Colorado similar to John Thompson/Georgetown from the 80s?

I wasn’t born yet when John Thompson was in his prime at Georgetown in the mid 80s. I remember watching the Big East 30 for 30 a few years ago and how he was hated along with his team while they were the team for the black community. My earliest memory as a kid about Georgetown was watching Allen Iverson and being a big fan of them. People that remember the 80s, was the hate that strong for John Thompson and Georgetown just on the east coast or the whole country?

Both are considered racists and sloppy coaches who exclusively recruited a certain color of athlete, so yes?

Not even close. Thompson was a different cat at a fancy little upper class school in the heart of the nation's capital. He put the demographics of that area on full display in the midst of the crack era. Different time and people weren't nearly as open minded as they are today. Deions got it easy.

No. John Thompson won a championship. Deion Sanders has won 3 games against mediocre FBS competition.

Thompson was at least a great coach. Deion can't coach worth a shite unless it's against mediocre teams.

Deions gimmick will wear out quickly. I see him jumping to the NFL soon as a DB coach.

bullshite.

Deion recruited quite a few white players at JSU. Took the white trainer with him to CU and paid her tuition.

Forget the rhetoric, Prime is not racist in how he recruits or hires. Quite a few black people could learn from him.

Deion doesn't hate white people. John Thompson was a racist piece of shite.

Bill McCartney already showed how to get great black athletes from the South and Cali to Boulder.

No, but he'll use racism if he thinks it'll help him.

So in your opinion was Bear Bryant a racist also since he only recruited a certain color of athlete when he coached for a period of time?

I thought Georgetown was an all black school growing up. No whites on team or coaches for that matter.

Anyone referring to John Thompson as a sloppy coach never watched his teams play or doesn’t know a fricking think about basketball.

Totally agree. As a young basketball coach I looked up to John Thompson back then, hell the team I coached were named the Hoyas because of John Thompson and how he coached and what he meant to the game.

Thompson was succeeded as head coach by a guy he recruited to Georgetown who then spent 20 years as his assistant
