I know a guy who was a fringe major leaguer, went up and down from AAA to the majors a bunch, had a few decent years in the bigs, was basically Derek Lee's back up in Chicago.
He gets paid a frick load in Japan, I dk how well he does, but they're only allowed a certain number of foreign players so they get paid more.
Yu Darvish used to be on his team

So Micah Hoffpauir.

-Played 3 yrs in MLB, hit .324/.400/534 in 33g in 2008. '09 played 105 with 235 AB and hit 10 HRs. 2010 24g hit .173.
-Was in AAA for at least 7 yrs (career .294/.356/.510 guy in AAA)
-Played 3 yrs in Japan, 2011-2013. Career .225/.298/.384 hitter.

I've heard some people say the Japanese league would be in between Majors and AAA.

1. MLB
2. AAA
3. AA
4. Caribbean league
5. Japanese league

I wish Bmac would weigh in on this, though I don't know what his opinion would be based on as he never played in Japan

seems to me it would be below AAA

He might be thinking of Matt Murton, who has the record for hits in a season with 211. The guy absolutely destroyed Japan.

I was going to rank it below AAA but then I got to thinking about all the Latin players that are in AA

My problem with list is their are a lot of good Caribbean baseball players in the MLB.

The Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico have put some serious talent out considering the size of their countries.

Also were does the Korean Baseball League rank.

Based on the difference in stats, I'm starting to believe it is not as good as those minor leagues. My friends dad hit .100 in the majors, .300 in the minors and 330 average in Japan with 30 plus homer seasons.

I guess this is where we begin, my junior high school boy's team could beat a Japanese team. or how my class A high school team could take 4 out of 7 games against the Japanese All Star team ?

The talent pool just isn't as big and the talent isn't as deep to to have a great leauge. Probably a handful of teams at the top could measure up to AAA but the talent drop off after those teams is huge.

In college football terms it is similar to michigan, ohio st and then the rest of the big ten.

I don't know what 'caribbean league' means but if you're talking about winter ball, then no.

From everything I've heard, Japan is typically placed at the AAA level to slightly above. Depends on the team you're discussing though.

Finding players that have had success there but not here doesn't always work as a measure of comparison. Can be as simple as the profiles of the hitters or pitchers work more in his favor in one place.
