The sport is growing but the media attempting to manufacture the following will end up hurting the sport. This thread is an example.

Tons of people actively despise the WNBA because of it being pushed down their throat. Otherwise, it would be tolerated and its organic growth could occur (whatever that potential is).

I do agree that the womens college game will take a pretty big step back next year.

Majority of sports fans are indifferent to it at worst. The MSB isn’t even indicative of the average fan. Most don’t have weird hatred for women’s sports like many here do

I mean have you seen the ratings of all the non-Iowa tournament games? It's obvious that WBB is growing. Caitlin is by far the biggest draw, but more people are paying attention to the sport as a whole than before.

Once in lifetime type of phenomenon. Once in a lifetime white athlete in a sport with a large amount of racist black women. Media was able to feed off of the racial divide and bring in viewership. I fell for it also. Haha

She's a thing of the moment, cult of personality.

The NBA Finals were tape delay in the late 70s but the massive interest in the Bird-Magic rivalry that started in college changed things.

Not saying that Clark will turn the WNBA into the NBA but if she is still able to put up huge scoring numbers it's going to give the league a decent bump.

On the other hand, if she's anything less than an All Star that interest will likely evaporate w/quickness.

You know how half of this board “doesn’t watch the NFL anymore”? Yet the talking heads producing salacious narrative are doing just fine, while quality sportswriting squeaks along on a spare tire?

Even if the NCAAW game is bloated with “fake fans,” those fake fans are the ones who just care about the drama and narrative. WWE sells, and they’ll create new heroes and villains for next year even if they don’t have a record breaking talent to prop the viewership up to the ridiculous heights of this past year. Paige and Juju will be valuable starpower even with the massive departures to the draft.

We’re definitely in a critical moment where they can secure interest from a whole generation of young people or fumble it with a terrible product. As much as many folks can’t stand the gameplay, other folks feel the same about golf. This year was at least proof of concept.

The sport is absolutely growing. There were record numbers last tournament that continued into this years. Clark isn’t the only draw. There are several big names still & tons of interesting storylines/questions going into next season.

What was common between Iowa vs LSU, Iowa vs UConn and Iowa vs USC?

Weird. Some LSU fans swore that it was Clark and Angel that drew.

That's unpossible. LSU wasn't playing in the game.

And the LSU Iowa game was on ESPN while the SC Iowa game was on ABC.

LSU Iowa would have pulled big numbers on ABC. All by design and very stupid by the network.

"Everybody watches women's sports" according to the shirts the chicks on ESPN SC were wearing on the TV at the gym.
