After 2 years as the title sponsor, Camping World decided to decline it's options for a 3rd and 4th year.

quote:

According to Lemonis, the Independence Bowl made $500,000 last year, but as title sponsor, they spent $700,000. His offer for this year was $550,000 but claims the Independence Bowl Committee wanted $800,000 and they couldn't come to an agreement.

quote:

"When we looked at the economics and the return on investment, we came back to them and said, ‘Everyone thinks we’re leaving, and we’re not telling you we’re leaving. We’re telling you we don’t see the value at this number, we see the value at this number,'” Lemonis said.
"The hotel tax passed; the committee got a big check from that. I didn’t see that money show up anywhere. The experience didn’t change year over year. In Year 1, they only got $700,000 from us. In Year 2, they got $900,000 from us and $500,000 from the city. I didn’t see the experience change at all – nothing."

May as well call it the life support bowl.

Town sucks, the stadium sucks, it's pretty much a POS bowl, and I have no idea why it's still alive ?

Yep. Used to draw decent matchups and good crowds. As the number of bowl games exploded, Shreveport paled as a post season destination and was far passed by in the hierarchy of games by better cities and bigger paychecks.

Sad, I miss the days when the Indy bowl was the fun/grungy bowl game on the schedule.

Before the bowl took a bump in the teams the conferences sent, the Big 12/SEC matchups usually drew well. You had fan bases more willing to travel and local fans who had more interest in those SEC teams.

Sadly I can't see the bowl surviving much longer. Lemonis' original plan as title sponsor was to have some level of involvement in helping the floundering bowl turn things around and reappeal itself to football fans. If an outside voice/sponsor who wanted to help couldn't get anything done, I think the bowl is dead.

That is too bad. In some years you big ten teams playing SEC teams. Notre Dame played LSU one year, MSU with Nick Saban played LSU. With a SEC and Big 12 tie-in you would expect decent fan interest. Pair up a team from the SEC west every year and a team from the big 12 based in Texas or Oklahoma and you'll have decent attendance and tv interest.

I agree Shreveport sucks, but coming down for one weekend and hitting up El Dorado or Horseshoe is fun. Now living here, yea....

The stadium is a joke

You could find enough ballers in Port City to come up with that. Hell, there are a few who could pony it up on their own and not miss it.

What became of Haynesville Shale? Wasn't this supposed to make Shreveport into a boom town?

There were 4 bowl games this past season without title sponsors.

Independence Bowl could be another on that list very shortly.

Didn't LSU go to this bowl in a 10-2 season? How did this game get so shitty? Usually one team at least was always ranked.
