The stand-alone site is a significant gamble by ESPN to appeal to African-Americans with daily and long-form journalism, commentary, podcasts, music, comedy, blogs, video and live coverage of events. The site will have four sections: sports, culture, historically black colleges and universities, and a stream of joyful items called The Uplift. Each day, the site plans to have 10 to 15 new pieces of content.

Hopefully it will be something positive that can help.
However, when Progressives are in charge of items such as this, that is never the intent. Unity, healing, etc, will be the last thing they will promote.
Either way, since it is ESPN, unless it is a game I am watching on MUTE, I won't care.

This has been in the works right? Wasn't Whitlock supposed to have his own Grant land?

I invision white people visiting more than black people to make commentary about black people.

I'm gonna troll the frick out of that sight.
frick ESPN.
frick ESPN.

It isn't about "race". It is about black people.
When the frick do Hispanics get theirs? There are more of them here now by a long shot.

Yeah, The Undefeated was supposed to be his but he got the boot apparently.
As far as the site, to each his own. The beauty of it is that we don't have to visit it if we don't want to. I am interested in seeing what ESPN will do if it doesn't bring decent revenue, especially with them losing so many major talking heads.
And it'll be my favorite site on the planet if they can find a way to bury Jemele Hill on it.

It seems like a significant amount of their regular ESPN programming is really aimed at an African American audience. There's nothing innately wrong about that but I find it strange when a relatively small percentage of the overall population probably self identifies as AA. Set aside white people, doesn't this also fail to target latinos and asians as well?
There must be numbers to justify this as a major marketing approach? I'm not seeing the big picture I guess.

Hispanic/Latino isn't a race, tho.

I agree. But neither is black if you actually look at genetic diversity within different populations. Africans and African Americans are a large group of different populations, not a race.

It really bears repeating every time one of these threads is created: all of the people who bitch about how easily everyone gets butthurt and offended and "pussification of America" and so on sure do bitch a lot and are offended every time a black person on ESPN opens his or her mouth.

I'd imagine ESPN thinks this African American targeted programming will draw them and white liberals/SJWs as well. Can't only expect to draw African Americans nationally and present that as a business model

Oh I completely agree. If that's what ESPN wants to do, have at it. I don't have to click on it.

Well, I guess I'd have to be convinced of that by real survey data or something. My perception is most true SJW's are more likely to deride sports as male centric patriarchy nonsense. There are obviously tons of white liberals who love sports - but I don't think most of them crave significant social commentary in lieu of real sports content.
I actually found myself turning off the radio yesterday when a feature came on with a guest talking about the OJ trial among other things. When his starting point was that OJ was acquitted - and there was no mention of the bungling prosecution, his loss in civil court, or the subsequent criminal shenanigans of OJ that landed him in jail I really didn't feel like patronizing that radio segment by leaving it on.
