If USC is a Top 5 job, how'd they end up with Kiffin and Sark?

I'm not necessarily arguing against USC being a premiere coaching destination, but if that's the case, why can't they make a splash when it comes to hiring a coach?

I'm not lambasting them for hiring guys that didn't work out, because that happens everywhere. However, Sark and Kiffin were underwhelming hires at best. If they fail to impress with a big name this time around, is it fair to question if they are in fact elite?

I lean towards blaming Haden more than anything, but USC seems to have so many positives in their corner that you could overlook a seemingly incompetent AD.

What 5 coaching gigs could possibly be ahead of USC, given the right AD?

Given the right AD its top 5. Currently its not top 5. Id say its the 2nd best job in los angeles right now.

The university president adores Haden and pretty much gives zero fricks about football border on being antagonistic. Until Haden is gone, USC isn't pulling a big name. That likely won't be any time soon.

Being a top 5-10 program and job does not guarantee you a top 5-10 coach because, newsflash, those guys are likely employed. Was Miles a top guy when LSU hired him? McElwain at UF? Hoke at Michigan? Shula at Alabama? There's a litany of examples. Alabama hiring Saban, Michigan hiring Harbaugh and OSU hiring Meyer are slam dunks that have a lot to do with great timing

I believe that the AD and the having to supplicate to the boosters there make it a not top 5 job. probably top 10-12.

They want to bring back the Pete Carroll Era so bad that they just pick whatever assistant from then that hasn't already had a crack at it.

Pat Haden is clearly the problem there.

Both Sark and Kiffin had ties to the Pete Carroll glory years. It was dumb thinking, but that was the thinking.

Southern Cal is a top 5 job.

The recruiting is down right incredible there. With the right coach they can be right back on top of the conference.

Simple. Although there are a lot of tier schools in cfb, there are not as many tier 1 coaches. All tier one coaches were already employed at tier 1 schools.

Are you really not aware that the NCAA levied the harshest sanctions possible against USC in 2010? Do you think any elite coach wanted to follow Carroll after being docked 30 scholarships?

Its definitely a top 5 job in 2016 and beyond.
