Agree.

The Beltway is full of drooling morons with Ivy League degrees.

It seems like Goodell is going to fast track something that was going to take at least 15-20 more years probably though.

This will be a non issue in two weeks. If that long.

And it is another issue that is a part of Goodell's tremendous record of incompetence.

The NBA will eventually surpass the NFL imo. It seems like Goodell is going to fast track something that was going to take at least 15-20 more years probably though.

I'm a fan of both leagues, but the popularity basketball continues to gain globally suggests that it's really only a matter of time before the NBA eclipses the NFL in terms of domestic draw (all things remaining equal), especially given that the NFL has little appeal internationally.

College football is a bit of a different beast, but I could conceive pro football taking a backseat to the NBA down the road. I hate to sound like an uppity futbol fan, but that's JMO.

Not really rooting for one league over the other, though. Like I said, I like both.

I agree. I don't want the NFL to lose popularity, but I still believe the NBA will take it's place. The issue with concussions right now is going to lead to the demise of the game in general, kind of like what has happened with boxing. I could be wrong, and I hope I am, but it feels like it's happening already.

What, if anything Adam Silver has his own PR nightmare going on. First Donald Sterling and now the owner of the Atlanta Hawks. If anything, his PR situatoin is worse because these are his bosses getting into trouble, not just some players that he can suspend or fine, we are talking about billionaires who sign his paycheck. The NBA is by no means in a position to capitalize on the recent NFL PR nightmare.

The difference here is the perception of the way the respective commissioners handled their trouble situations. While Goodell has been perceived to stumble and mete out incongruous punishments, Silver went from being perceived as the mild-mannered successor to the machine David Stern built to the hard-nosed guy who took a stand against Sterling and set the tenor that made even an off-color email seem to be over the line. Whether we agree with the way any of these situations have been handled, there is no doubt that perception-wise, Silver has come out smelling like a rose, while Roger's credibility has taken several hits.

How? Why concussions? The idea that using your head as a weapon has always been dangerous.

Boxing's demise was due to a corrupt and disorganized in terms of setting a champion. Then they took the matches off of free TV and everything was a PPV event. It was a perfect storm of poor marketing decisions.

The NBA product can't compete on the same level. There is no scarcity, people will never plan their entire day around each NBA game like they do football.

People don't have to like just one sport though.

No one will disagree there but the thing is people aren't going to start liking basketball more than football because they have a more competent commissioner.

My feeling that the NBA might eclipse the NFL has little to do with who is commissioner, for the record.

I was just responding to the Buckeye who thought that the NBA couldn't come out better perception-wise than the NFL

And again, I'll continue to be a fan of both No skin off my nose either way.

Seriously - the NFL needs to get pointers from the NBA on how to get more hipstery players who wear nerd glasses.

How did this mostly become an NBA trait?
