If Cavs win it all this year, will it set a precedent for teams "Coasting"?

..throughout the regular season?

I'm not referring to players sitting out games, but moreso the intensity of play.

Will other teams just say "screw it, we're going to the postseason anyway. This game is not that important". Play hard when they want to, survive the regular season and do enough to get in the playoffs.

'94-95 Rockets were the precedent setters at coasting during a regular season. Not a new concept.

They can get away with it due to the shitball east and only having to win without home court in one series. Tough to win multiple series that way.

Also depends on the competition. If they feel the opponents are easy enough to beat without home court then why not.

The scales are tipped heavily in the favor of Cleveland in the East. They know it, their opponents know it, and the fans know it. It's LeBron, then everyone else. I was a believe in the Raps showing up this year in the Playoffs after they acquired Ibaka but once again, I'm let down.

If they do I'm going back to not rooting for anyone in the NBA, but I'll still watch as a casual.

Yes. Players will just form more super all star teams, sit out 1/2 the year & make the finals vs D-Leaguers by 2024. The $ will be so stupid by then , Stars can buy rings in their prime & still pocket over $30 mil/ "year"

Yeah, I see future teams that have a Lebron James just coasting and turning it on in the playoffs. Short of that? No.

Shaq's Laker teams were notorious for this.

I only recently started following the NBA recently so I could be wrong but does it just seem like they're coasting because nobody ever talks about them or because they're coasting? They won 67 games last season.

2001 Lakers, Shaq basically used the season as a way to slowly lose his summer weight then they were legendary Iverson game away from going 16-0.

Older contending teams always do this. Didn't really help that they were constantly dealing with injuries and acclimating to new additions to the lineup.

They are just well known to rest their starters during the season

Their gm will be known for dealing to get korver and williams.

Played last two games 4th quarter with bench and lebron. Getting bench prepared and conditioned and playing real minutes.

They can now play warriors bench vs cavs bench.

To beat w's the bench will have to show up.

In all honesty, who cares? Half the NBA teams make the playoffs that's part of the issue that sets the basis to allow coasting the reg season. But who actually remembers the regular season outside of individual stats? The regular season is really only there to practice and prepare for the playoffs, how a team does that really doesn't matter. Similar to the NFL in which teams will sit their starters their last two regular season games if they don't have to win.
