I'm just so much more emotionally attached to state basketball. And in terms of what matters for the program, this game is way more important for state. Next year's matchup is more important for LSU Cuz it'll be LSUs year

You're going to watch the game naked with a belt around your neck.

DoCho, you were the first person I thought of when I saw this pairing.

I went to the Iona/Geo Mason game this year. Obviously, the stakes were no where near as high as a first round NCAA game. But there was no question that I wanted Iona to win (they put up a stinker and lost), but I knew I would pull for my undergraduate school over law school.

Some people told me that I was in a "no-lose" situation, but I wanted Iona to win.

Good luck in dealing with this dilemma.

ETA: I see LSU winning.

I hate NC State so much. I hope we beat them by a million. NC State is the first team I ever hated in any sport, as a kid growing up in Maryland.

There aren't enough bad things that can happen to them. This is my dream. God, I hate the Pack. I root for Duke to beat State.

Was your dad an MD alum who watched the 1974(?) team loss in that ACC Tournament Overtime game?

I know you aren't old enough for those years, so I'm trying to figure out why you hated State more than UNC. I realize the Duke rivalry wasn't huge until the late 90s.

No, but we pass down our anger in Maryland. And I am old enough that it was still a fresh wound. By the time the Terps went on probation, all we had were the old days. Like you said, Duke was a 90s thing, my sports hatreds were already solidified.

And also, it was a logical rivalry. With Duke-UNC locked in a blood feud, it made more sense to spend our time hating the other NC Mafia team, locked out of the rivalry yet still the established #3 kid on the ACC block. It was infuriating. I mean, at least Duke and UNC were snooty over SOMETHING.

Didnt NC State have more championships than Duke and probably the same as UNC when you were a kid though?

Probably more acc championships too

eta: I mean in terms of hardware, Duke was behind State until after our program got butteffed by the NCAA/ACC for a bunch of bullshite in the early 90s

I feel your pain buddy, I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, and my dad (who went to LSU) has raised me as a big basketball fan. So LSU basketball was my favorite thing to watch growing up. '06 was magical and I moved to NC before the '09 Marcus Thornton team took on UNC. Have hated UNC ever since (and my dad has always hated Roy Williams), and then ended up at NC State for college.

Thus, I'm pulling for my Wolfpack on Thursday, but it's just a weird feeling seeing them play each other for the first time on such a big stage. And I have followed both teams so closely this season (including being at every game at PNC arena this year), but still can't pick who I objectively think will win game. Either team could win by 10+...that being said, Geaux 'Pack!
