I don't understand why fumbling into the end zone is a turnover?

It doesn't make any sense to me, you fumble the ball out of bounds and the other team gets the ball, why?

IMO it should be a touchback but the offense keeps the ball.

It should go back to where the ball was fumbled

ASJ had a play ruled a TD, then overturned on review and called a fumble/turnover in the Pats/Jets game

He fumbled and then recovered it himself in the end zone and it was called a touchback, right? BS.

Because then a runner stopped short of the goal line could chunk it into the end zone and hope for the best.

As aJets fan this is just another case of the refs doing all they can to help the Cheaters win. Only the fricking NE Cheaters would get a bullshite call like that. Only them.

Which is why returning it to the spot of the fumble makes the most sense.

Wait what?

If a fumble into the end zone is a touchback for the offense how would chunking it into the end zone be beneficial?

I was going to start this exact same thread, it’s the dumbest rule in football. Bring it back to the 20 and give it to the fumbling team if anything. Absolutely silly to hand it to the defense.

you lose the ball into their territory (their end zone). That's the way I understand it.

You misunderstood my post. If not for the rule, they could do that. This keeps them from doing it.

Okay but it's way too harsh, it should not be a turnover

What? A forward fumble always gets reverted back to the spot of the fumble if recovered by the offense. There's no benefit to just chucking it forward
