I know this is next to impossible but if a team not in the CFP finished #1 in the final AP poll would they have a share of the national title? If not, does that delegitimize USC’s 2003 AP national title? Seems so. The BCS was the agreed upon system then, the CFP is the agreed upon system now.

You have to have some crazy situation where 5 and 6 are as deserving as 1-4 and the AP had 5 and 6 in the 4 and the CFP didn't. 5 plays 6 and wins decisively.

Probably something like all 5 P5 champs and AND all unbeaten and the playoff games are ugly and 5 beats 6 like 48-7 with 5 and 6 already being like 2 and 3 in AP

USC has no claims. AP voting USC would be like Louisiana Sportsman magazine making LSU the 2011 champs.

If the humans determining the playoffs picked the 2 BCS teams in 2003, they would have picked USC and Oklahoma because they are two national brands that pass the eye test.
