Teams operate in a state of either contending, rebuilding, or being stuck in the middle of the two in a wandering aimless daze known as mediocrity. If this was organized into one of the charts we are taught in grade school, it would be three lists, with teams snuggled neatly below these headers. Rarely do these things intermingle, but the Carolina Panthers are one of the rare teams who are better suited for a Venn Diagram than a table. They are the only team in the league I can name that has been able to contend while they rebuild and have had to rebuild as they contend.

Gettleman should've resigned Josh Norman before the start of the season. Going to have to pay a lot more for him now that he's blowing up.

I'm not sure the thread title makes any sense. If you're talking more with less, you need to consider the Packers as well. Just a few days ago on monday night they were talking about how the packers get their draft picks to perform and about all the guys they pick up off the street and turn into contributors.

From what I read, it's basically saying that the new GM has cleaned things up and done a good job.

It's amazing what a transcendent player can do for you.

They are a perennial 2-win team without Cam.

Right. They're not doing more with less. They've been so shitty in surrounding Cam with a competent supporting cast that Cam is so underrated now. It's ridiculous how good that guy is at football. Cam is doing more with less. The Panthers are doing less (supporting cast) with more (Cam).

His QBR:

2012 - 13th
2013 - 10th
2014 - 20th
2015 - 13th

Hardly ridiculously good or "transcendent".

Again. See how many QBs thrive with the shite he's been given to work with.

This is the NFL, not college. In the NFL, positional roles are more defined. Cam had perhaps the most dominant season in CFB history, but that doesn't translate to the pros necessarily. He's kind of mediocre in the NFL.

They've beaten the Jaguars (1-2), Texans (1-2) and Saints (0-3). Pump the brakes. The NFC South is garbage. Carolina is not at a disadvantage compared to the other 31 teams. There is no "more with less" to compare

Can we apply this logic to Andrew Luck too? Seems only fair.

Well, he's had a ton of QBs ahead of him each year. You think all of them have had worse receivers than the Panthers...every season?

(The answer to that rhetorical question is no.)
