I'm pretty sure Blake Gideon was gone before they started sucking...

He was Auburn's GA before he went to South Carolina

Yup. And he actually took over as DB coach for the Birmingham Bowl in 2015 after Muschamp and Travaris Robinson left for South Carolina. He then followed them to USCjr after the Bowl game.

Glad to know that Auburn had a hand in killing Texas football.

I'd say Garrett Gilbert being a massive bust was far more damaging than two unfortunate plays.

It was November 1 and #1 Texas was playing #6 Texas Tech on the road in Lubbock. The Longhorns had a 33-32 lead over the Red Raiders with just under a minute left. Texas Tech was driving and, with 11 seconds left in the game, Graham Harrell threw a pass up to Edward Britton. The pass was high, deflected off of Britton's hands, and bounced up into the air where a diving Blake Gideon was waiting for it. The ball hit Gideon right in the chest, but the ball slipped out of his hands and hit the turf for an incompletion. On the very next play, Harrell hit Michael Crabtree for a touchdown and #1 Texas was upset 39-33.

I was on a visit to Tech for this game and will never forget watching this happen live.

Afterwards, I had never seen a town/city party harder. There were literally people at intersections hanging off of the stop lights. It was absolutely insane.

BTW, Gideon is freaking horrible and never should have started for UT.

Mack Brown and staff getting lazy with recruiting evaluations and nurturing an entitled, country club atmosphere is what unraveled Texas football.

I remember the "almost' interception. I don't recall him diving for it though.
