How is OSU so high in the computer polls?

How is Oklahoma State so high in the computer polls? I'm not trying to find something to complain about, just wondering. They have only played six games and two were against ranked opponents (when they played), LSU has played four ranked, Alabama 3 and Oklahoma 2.

I am sure in the end the computer rankings all shake out, but I'm just curious as to how they are ranked #1 in four of the six computer polls.

And so is LSU, Alabama and Oklahoma. What distinguishes OSU?

ranked opponents (when they played)

to understand, stop thinking in these terms

LSU's computer score is fricked b/c of the 1AA opponent, and our only 2 good opponents both are hurt by playing 1AA opponents

OSU has played TAMU (4 wins), UT (4 wins) and ULL (6 wins). that's 14 wins for the top 3 teams. with the sample being incomplete, that swings thing somewhat

4 games against BCS opponents, Tulsa is 3-3, and ULL is 6-1

Two things in your post are irrelevant:

1. What your opponents are ranked in opinion polls
2. How good that team was when you played them.

As far as the computers are concerned, Miss State is a terrible team and Florida is mediocre. They don't care that the Coaches Poll had them ranked high when we played them

Take a look at their schedule, the losses of the teams that they beat came at the hands of very good teams. So that looks pretty good to the computers.

Yeah but what were Tulsa's losses? Boise state, OU, OSU... that's a great 3-3 to the computers, ULL's only loss was to OSU as well.

ETA: Also they beat A&M whose only losses are to OSU and Arkansas (ranked high) and also beat Texas whose only losses are to OSU and OU both ranked high.

They're ranked No. 1 in four of the six computer polls. OSU has beaten Texas A&M and UT, both ranked teams at the time. So who deserves to be higher than them?

LSU definitely has an argument, but it's not like the computers pulled this shite out of their asses. Once you understand how they work, it makes sense.

LSU is ranked #1 I meant who behind OSU should be ranked ahead of them.

Totally agree. I was trying to phrase it as decent non-BCS wins.

Totally agree. Not at all surprising they are #1 right now

Oh I see .

Yeah the rankings look just fine. As for Boise they deserve to be where they are right now too.

This.

It's what the human polls are for. The voters take into account their rankings and who beat who...which is why LSU is #1 in the AP. Big win over Oregon a Top 10 team.

Computer programmers don't plug in the human polls into their algorithm. Hell, Colley Index had Michigan #1 two weeks ago. So beating them would matter in his index.
