Les Miles is not a bad choice IMO. People can say what they want and I know his era at LSU ended on sour note, but the man can win. He's also a great recruiter.

Slightly less hot than Charlie Strong's seat.

Emphasis on slightly.

If you check out the coaching board 11-1 would be considered an off year

He's had three 8-5 seasons and one 9-4 season. This will be his 4th season of 8-5 or worse and 5th season of 9-4 or worse.

Most of his tenure has been off years.

It will be his first losing record if that's what you mean, but he's had plenty of "off years." He's only had 2 10 win seasons (national championship year and last year). In that time though he's lost many games he should not have and his antics are just tiring. Can't even defend him for his crap anymore.

If LSU was justified in firing Miles (they were IMO), then Notre Dame is more than justified in firing Kelly. You do not regress this bad in year 7.

I honestly don't even know how good of a job ND is anymore.

1. It's geographically, not good for recruiting, Indiana is a wasteland and it's extremely hard to pull kids from other states.

2. It won't budge on academic standards so even if you do heavily recruit hotbeds of Texas and Georgia and Florida, most of those Southern boys can't get into your school while they CAN get in the big state SEC schools.

3. It has no identity...at least not anymore....they refuse to get into a conference so they really have no identity and become irrelivent at years end when all these others are playing big time conf title games.

4. It's a small, heavily religious university, the weather is crap ...at least Ohio State and Michigan are huge universities in cool, party towns so they can overcome the weather issue.

I don't know why any top coach would take the ND job over somehwere like an LSU, USC, Texas or even Auburn where football is king, you're in recruiting location heaven, the weather is great, and they'll pay you almost anything.
