Keep the major bowls as they are. Following the current bowl schedule, use the final BCS rankings to determine the top 4 (8?) teams that would constitute a playoff. The bowl schedule would need to be moved forward, but a 4 team playoff means only two extra games for the last two team involved.'

What argument is there against this?

This is how I originally thought it would be set up. The BCS should be able to get the best teams in the nation in the top 4.

I'm not sure I like the human factor in it the way it is proposed.

Exactly. Because we know there's most likely going to be 3 SEC teams in the top 4 anyway.

Which SEC team would make it this year ?? In the new playoff system, the number one ranked team takes on the number four ranked team and the number two team takes on the number three team. The Rose, Fiesta, Sugar and Orange Bowls will play host to the playoff games and the championship game will circulate among those four bowls for now.

Another thouyght in this bowl game is the new SEC and Big 12 bowl that will be played at the end of the season. That bowl, which has not been created yet, wants to be considered as a playoff bowl as well. The Cotton Bowl organizers are also making a push to be a championship bowl host at some point in the future.

Sec already has a playoff. If you win a conference championship game, you play for a national championship.

I think the semi finals should happen earlier in December. Like I bowl or Holiday Bowl time frame.

I think you will have a lot of fans sitting out the semis and holding out for a Nat championship game. Too much time off and too much money around the holidays to expect tens of thousands of fans to make two trips.

The smart thing to do would be to have quasi regional set ups like the NCAA's has.

Has been that way lately. What if the SEC has the 4 best teams in the country? They play each other to some extent and someone must lose. Other conferences seem to have fewer high quality teams and will likely have one that is undefeated. These teams would get the nod over SEC teams with 1 or 2 losses even though they may not be nearly as good.

This year's bowl results will be telling in that regard. So far the SEC is 5-1 with the one loss being a injury decimated UGA by 5 points to Nebraska.

What say the rantards?

I have thought all alone they should have had a 8 team playoff (top 8 BCS standings) with the 4 BCS games as the quarter final games, Cotton and Peach Bowl as semi final and bid out the NC game. Have the quarter finals on NYE and NYD and the semi seven days later and the championship game the saturday before MLK day. The schools involved could change their calender to start after MLK day to keep football from being a 2 semester sport and give students plenty of time to get back to campus.
