I think her Zika comedy series on twitter was worse. She was an embarrassment to the US national team, and was the living embodiment of the Ugly American stereotype. I wouldn't be upset if she never played for the USWNT ever again.

Did not hear the rant, but it's a competitive sport being played at a high level. You should be able to talk some shite, even if it is soccer.

It wasn't shite talking. It was being the definition of a sore loser and flies in the face of what the olympics are supposed to be about.
Think if Leonard Fournette made comments after the Bama game to the effect of "they are a bunch of pussies who just stacked the box and the didn't deserve to win because they wouldn't be able to stop me if they used a more balanced defensive scheme."
That kind of shite talk should be ok in your mind?

It isn't something you suspend someone 6 months over.
This suspension is to force Solo out because USWNT doesn't need her anymore now their their WC/Olympics cycle is over. There is a reason she got a slap on the wrist for domestic violence. They needed her for the WC in 2015 and Olympics this year.
They won't be relevant again until the next WC in 2019, so they now have time to develop a new GK in the three years leading up to that.

I agree that she isn't being suspended solely for her comments, but moreso that she is just no longer worth the trouble.
But to those saying shite talking should be ok, they should know that this wasn't exactly shite talking like you'd expect. It's butthurt sore loser whining that should be wholly discouraged at all times.

Agreed. It's also the cumulative effect. It's the comments on top of her tweets on top of her domestic violence on top of her publicly criticizing her own teammates in the past on top of... She's a headache. and she's not nearly worth the trouble anymore. You can get away with being a horse's arse and even a criminal if you're awesome. But at the slightest slippage, no one wants to keep you around.
I'd also point out that sportsmanship is particularly important in the Olympics. I'm a little more lenient of poor sportsmanship in the World Cup, but the Olympics are supposed to adhere to some sort of ideals about fair play and sportsmanship.

She might as well be suspended for all of 2017, there's no significant matches to be played by the WNT all of next year.
