Indiana University officials have fired football coach Kevin Wilson and will announce his dismissal at a Thursday news conference, according to the Indianapolis Star and other media outlets.

Officials have yet announced a reason for Wilson's dismissal, but a former Hoosiers player told ESPN that he and at least five current IU players were interviewed about Wilson's treatment of players in meetings with athletic department officials and university lawyers during the past two weeks.

The university sent out a news alert Thursday saying there would be a major announcement regarding the football program at a 6 p.m. news conference.

Wilson scored a six-year contract extension in January, worth $2.55 million per year. The contract included a fairly tame buyout clause that will cost the Hoosiers just $540,000 per year in base salary for every year Wilson is let go prior to 2022; if Wilson lands a job that pays more than the $540,000 mark, the Hoosiers will be off the hook entirely.

yeah. It was a bad attempt at humor.

Ohio State limits reps on players. Once they hit a certain number of reps they sit out a lot of spring practice.

quote:

The magic number at Ohio State when Urban Meyer and his staff start to get overly cautious with some of their top players is 2,000. As in 2,000 reps.

The "2,000-rep Club" is something Meyer and Co. have brought the Buckeyes. Any player who reaches 2,000 combined competitive reps in practice and games is watched with extra attention by the coaching staff and will be somewhat limited in spring practice.

There's a lot more they are doing for players now to ensure that players are healthier. It would appear that not all programs take that approach.

I know that they've completely changed the training protocol for Marshon Lattimore. He had hamstring problems his first two years and once they changed his training program the hamstring issues have gone away.

From Gabe Ikard's (Center for Cleveland Browns) twitter account:

quote:

Kevin Wilson once ripped my buckled helmet off my head, spit on my jersey, & punched me in chest during practice. But the guy could coach.

That being said...Kevin Wilson got the absolute most out of his players. I will forever be indebted to him for teaching me what it took.

Kevin Wilson was just old school. Maximum effort/toughness or you don't play for him. Unreal intensity & candor. Not for the thin skinned.

Well that's why Ohio State will never have the success of Indiana.

Well...so much for their slow but steady progression to being competitive. Back to the shitter for them. I see a whole lotta soft creeping back into the program in Bloomington.

Yeah. Terrible decision, football wise, for Indiana.

They were making headway from being the worst program in the B10, but now they're aimed firmly back at going down the shitter again.

Remember when Kansas fired their coach that was mean to their players? I think they won more games in his last 2 years of coach at Kansas than they have in the 6 years combined since he was let go.
