Should this be allowed? I personally think no that high school to the nfl shouldn’t happen and will never happen.

Give me some of y’all opinions.

Only about .0000000001% are physical enough to handle it.

Never gonna happen.

Can’t risk the injury to a kid like that.

Go ahead and open it up to high schoolers, not a single one will sniff getting drafted.

Just argued with a guy that says yes they should but couldn’t give me a good reason when I said they’re not physically ready, etc like y’all are saying.

This guy is really a moron tho. I’ve known/worked with him for a while now.

Allowed? Yes.
Practiced in reality? No.

I like the baseball rules.

I think that it's illegal that they can't, but I also wouldn't advise any player to do it.

Many said Adrian Peterson was ready.

Sure go ahead and allow it. No team would draft an 18 year old to take up a roster spot in the NFL.

Only players that may be ready would be RB’s or a WR. I don’t think any other position could even be physically ready.

Billy Cannon
Marcus Dupree
Herschel Walker
Earl Campbell

These guys and others like them could have done it.

The reason is that the NFL was not a full time job until the 80s. Until the era of million dollar contracts and league minimums, most pros had off-season jobs (Roger Staubach was a real estate agent, for example).

Players back then did not participate in year-round training and nutrition regimens to make their bodies as strong and fast as they could be (watch old NFL Films interviews of Art Donovan ). Therefore, a "special player" like the ones listed above could have probably made the transition. Now, not even someone like Derrick Henry could make the transition. Hell, Henry didn't really feature at Alabama until he was a sophomore.

Maybe a special receiver, a Julio Jones or Michael Crabtree type, could do it because of the "limited" contact a WR gets.

To answer your question, no it shouldn't be allowed.

There have been several 19 year olds drafted, including a former Tiger. There are tons of high school guys that are 19 when the draft occurs.

Seems like the learning curve and adjustment to the speed of the game are pretty steep from college to the NFL, even for guys who played at major college programs. Don’t see how one could go from high school straight to the NFL.

Fournette was lab-built so arguably his body would be ok, but he wouldn't earn any touches or have a chance to develop

The good news is the NFL has a developmental league known as "college football"

Hell no. Look at this picture of DJ Metcalf, who's ones of the physical studs in the league. Even he would have gotten broken in half after high school (I'm disregarding his talent as a wr wasn't ready, just talking straight physical readiness). Look at those legs

I saw a Nolan Ryan doc on Netflix last week. He installed air conditioners back in Texas during his early career to make ends meet.

Yeah, but those guys have three years of S&C and nutrition at the college level to prepare their bodies.

He didn't even start in the NFL until his 3rd year (age 24) so safe to say he couldn't play out of hs.

Calvin Johnson, Julio, Patrick Peterson types would be the only ones who'd probably be so physically advanced that an NFL team would spend a roster spot just to basically redshirt them.
