re: Goodell's legacy: 2 slapdick "investigations" that fricked 2 franchises

But it does so happen that Goodell was there when the NFL went from very wealthy to print money wealthy
except that's not the case, and that also just doesn't happen overnight
2007 was his first year as commissioner (he started in September 06, so his first full year)
the upward momentum as far as media interest, fan interest, and revenue growth was already there...look at the year to year growth of the NFL's revenue
The NFL was also "printing money" a few years before anyone knew who the frick he was, manning's record breaking year, the patriots dynasty, the manning/brady showdowns, steelers were back, television contracts, labor deals...everything was great, and the foundation for what you're seeing now with the NFL's brand invincibility is all Tags, all of it.
Tags didn't protect the shield, he strengthened it. (he made it the single most popular sport in America) Goodell has done nothing more than public relations for the owners.
now, I ask you...do you think the fans think more highly or less highly of the NFL now than they did in 2006?

You're arguing with a guy who thinks american football is the biggest sport on thr planet...I think you are wasting your time

I answered your email. I should've read the subject line closely.
Thanks for the interest though.

Channel 4 in Britain didn't pay billions for NFL. NBC in America paid billions for EPL.
And yet the NFL still generates way more revenue. As a fan of the EPL, I have no interest in making it seem inferior to the NFL....but it is.

frick Goodell. I'm getting sick of this shite. Every season it's something new.

People want Roger gone for other reasons, and are using this scandal to push. That is correct.
Roger is a terrible reactionary buffoon who is fricking up the NFL. This is also correct.
Best post in this thread and absolutely correct.

it's really bad...and for some years now we've had to listen to people rewrite history as if the NFL wasn't the unstoppable juggernaut in 06 when Goodell took over, and that the foundation he put down hasn't propelled the league to its current success
goodell has made player conduct policy a priority and public emphasis, with the motive of making a name for himself and cleaning up an already great image...instead, he has destroyed all of the goodwill between the NFL and its fans. He has created a perception (I'm not here to discuss the reality) that the NFL is loaded with thugs, and he's had about 3 or 4 major PR disasters, one of which should be grounds for his termination
That's just the quick and easy
he fricking sucks and I hope he gets canned because my interest in the NFL is waning, and I don't think that's a good thing for me.

some, sure
for me, I see this as the last in a series of major frickups, and I think it's time to go...I don't think this on its own should warrant his termination, but then he was just caught lying in yet another of his patented PR smear campaigns
this time against a victim of domestic abuse. He definitively has lied, either to reporters (which is slimier for a variety of reasons) or to us...I'm definitely viewing this through the prism of replacement refs, bountygate, spygate, lockout, etc.
He is too often the news, and that's bad for fans and for the owners...it is a much shorter than you think matter of time before the results start showing.

It's the best league in the nation that has the most sports consumers, and it isn't close.
Yes but no one outside the US cares. Basketball, Soccer and Cricket are all bigger internationally.
In reply to your probable counter argument, consider the population of India.

again, an irrelevant argument as anyone could've stepped in for tags, jerked their meat around, and watched record revenues.

Yeah you didn't just stop at sports. You claimed it was the preeminent form of entertainment.

And outside of some totally different type of product, like FIFA, you'd be hard pressed to find its rival. Saying cricket is bigger than American football internationally is an entirely different discussion than whether any cricket product rivals the NFL in the entertainment industry.

Well, good luck selling the argument that the guy heading up the NFL when it became the most popular thing on the planet is doing a shitty job.

Goodell said his indefinite suspension of Rice is consistent with his new domestic violence policy announced late last month, with a six-game suspension for a first offense and at least a year suspension for the second.
Laughable. So he essentially got charged twice for the same crime
