If they think it'll help pace of play i'm all for it. there is no doubt some people take way too long to find their perfect patch of grass to drop it on.

This is mostly directed at people who play it up everywhere.

These rules are directly mostly at tournament play. Groups sometimes make up their own rules. For instance: Carts On Path = up everywhere except hazards/bunkers. 90* = up only in fairway and you don't have to drop. Just get it out of a divot within a club length.

What would a guided drop be? You will still have to drop and not flick your wrist or anything. I am sure this has more to do with slope, as many drops are near water and/or sloping down towards OOB. This will just allow you to get more of a true lie at that spot as opposed to a high drop that may bounce or roll away.

For my game, I personally love the rule.

These rules help the average golfer like me enjoy the game more. Why can't they implement for 2018?

Looks like the DJ situation at the US Open sparked a bunch of these

Is this going to eliminate the white out of bounds stakes?

This would be an enormous rule change and would immediately lower my handicap a couple of points.

I'm going to assume OB is not affected.

They are going to get feed back from tour professionals, club professionals, and the average hack like us. These rule changes aren't official yet. Then it's going to take several months to rewrite all of the golf rules books and it will take a little bit of time for tour officials and such to get up to speed on the changes.

'Maximum score' rule could come in useful...

Played on an amateur tour where triple bogey was the max score. Really helped when guys hit two OB off the tee.

Triple bogey is entirely too generous of a max for any serious tournament

I wasn't talking about throwing the ball, but more or less a guided drop to have a favorable roll for you. The height at which you drop the ball will have an impact as to how much your ball moves after the drop.
True, but many times players want a shitty kick when the ball hits so they can place the ball 2 club lengths away from whatever shite lie they're in.

So if a player wants to be able to place the ball exactly how they want it, they won't be dropping it an inch from the ground all the time...because that still leaves them with the possibility of a bad lie.

Right?

Here's the link to the USGA site with full details and videos. It also includes explanations for the proposed changes.

A player would have to be “virtually certain,” or 95 percent sure, that he/she caused the ball to move. Otherwise, there is no penalty.

What if someone is 94% sure?

This is the dumbest wording of a rule I've ever seen.

Also, you can move shite in a hazard? WTF?!

I think they talked about double par as a max

Like most of these, except the following:
quote:

New procedure for dropping a ball
I mean what's wrong with dropping from the shoulder?
quote:

Ball Played from the Putting Green Hits Unattended Flagstick in Hole
How hard is it to pull the flag? Now we will deal with guys wanting to leave the pin in when facing a downhill putt, hoping to get an advantage.
quote:

Encouraging Prompt Pace of Play
Forty seconds could be pretty quick when trying to evaluate a shot in difficult conditions, I wonder the enforcement on this one.

Individual money games, I agree. Team money games where you aren't playing every ball and just about everyone is a single digit HC, no.

I don't see it listed, but what about allowing balls in divots in the fairway to be removed and replaced out of the divot? This is one rule that really irks me, but maybe it's just me.
