I knew that courses were offering 9 holes for 1/2 price. I've read that the reason was to attract younger golfers who don't have 3 hours to commit. I'm retired and have lots of time.

But today I had two commitments in Shreveport that were almost 2 hours apart. I needed to kill an hour and half. So I did 9 holes at Querbes. It was great.

If I don't have time for 18, I'll pick something I want to work on. I'll hit a bucket, then play 9. I love doing that.

I have friends who refuse to play 9. I don't really get it.

Golf should be 15 holes max. I find my groove after 3 holes. Then get like 5-9 holes of fun/enjoyable golf. Then it falls apart for 3 but is still fun. The last 3-5 holes are just there to make me angry.

usually i just buy the 18 because i find that at most places the difference in price between 9 and 18 is usually only a few dollars difference. for instance twilight at carter plantation is $40 after tax 9 holes is $35. at the LSU course students can play 18 for $23 and play 9 for $18. may as well pay for 18 and play as many holes as possible.

since my son (14)and youngest daughter (4) are just starting out playing golf, we play 9 holes. If we played 18 we would be out there for 8 hours

Wow, I wouldn't go for that. Querbes was very reasonable. 18 holes is $40. 9 holes is $20.

I'm a student and I play 9 as much as I can. 18 takes upwards of 4 hours, and towards the end of the round my game often falls apart. Even when I was working this past summer I'd regularly play 9 when I got off work at 6. I love a good 18 from time to time, but it's a much bigger commitment. Playing 9 has the best value for me.

I play 9 at Querbes or Huntington often. Well actually not as often since school started back but we played a good bit in the summer.

When I lived in W. Palm Beach I participated in a 9 hole league I believe it was on Wednesdays. It was a two man team competition. We could tee off between 5 and 6PM and easily finish before it got dark. I usually ran out the front door at work a little before 5. One day our receptionist asked why I left a little early every Wednesday. I told her I was going to see my therapist. She believed me.

You're the second poster to say you have problems on the last 3 of 18. So do I. But I don't think it's physical. I think it's lack of concentration. On the last 2 or 3 wholes I'm thinking "It's almost over. I gotta pick up groceries. I gotta let the dogs out."

Instead of thinking "Hit the ball!"

I walk 9 at least 2 times per week after work. Perfect for keeping the game sharp for full rounds on the weekends. Not to mention, walking 9 twilight has become equal price or cheaper than a bucket of balls at the driving range.

While in college the university had a 9 hole course, it cost $1.00 and you could walk all day.

I've played 100's of 9 hole rounds due to dark/rain/class etc etc

I joined a country club for the reason that i could just go play 1 hole or 18 holes whenever I wanted.

I agree with that to an extent, but I think they're tied together. Because I don't play 18 holes very often, I'm not as mentally in shape as I should be in order to keep my game together toward the end of a round when I get a little tired and hungry.

Yeah most courses I play at, the difference between 9 and 18 is negligible
