re: Golf pet peeves

My biggest pet peeves with playing in a group are:

(A) the guy who decides to walk around right behind and/or in front of you, distracting your attention when you're either driving or putting

(B) the guy who gives himself a "gimme", sticking his club in the hole and measuring to see if it's "inside the leather" especially when you have something on the line to play for.

(C) the guy who misses his four foot putt, goes past the hole, then backswipes in towards the hole, and MISSES, then doesn't count the additional stroke, saying, "he wasn't trying".

(D) the guy who throws a club when he gets PO'd at himself

My biggest pet peeves with the golf course itself?

(A) rocks in sand traps (yeah, you Bear Creek)

(B) old farts who want to talk about their latest gall bladder condition with the asst. pro behind the counter while you're running late and need to check in.

(C) Course marshalls who are just a bunch of old retirees who only do it to get free golf, and then don't do anything. Every marshall should be required to wait for a group to clear a green, check the bunkers, repair a few ball marks and then move on.

(D) ill taken care of wooded areas between fairways, you know: limbs, brush, pine combs, rocks, limbs that haven't been trimmed

(E) Cart girls that come around only once a side. (especially if she's really hot!)

(F) Fairways that are 75 yards across and are blocked off from carts.

(G) not being told when making a tee time that the greens have been or will be aerated and/or sanded when you plan to play. The worst is not being told there are temporary greens. And those frickers still charge full rate.

(H) Paying a premium price ($$$) for a round of golf at a "destination" course and they are letting the greens get hairy and the first cut of rough grow to nature preserve heights because they are "conditioning" the course in preparation of an upcoming tournament (yes... you... Donald Trump)

Going through the same routine sounds like a good practice. A 50 foot putt is one stroke and a 5 foot putt is one stroke. Something I actually need to work on is taking more time on shorter putts.

Oh I completely agree, and I do this. For a 5 foot putt. I'm talking about the guys who spend 30 seconds lining up a tap in.

groups of 5+ piss me off to begin with but then slow playing and acting like this is the most important round of their lives really pisses me off.

I played with a group for a number of years. There was this one guy who had been in the group long before me. He stiffed me at the end of a round for $20. He did it again, a few weeks later for $10, conveniently forgeting he still owed me for the previous week. I was already PO'd about the first time. I like your style, but your execution needs a little work... A driver would have been way more expensive to replace.

I think it was more about the lack of payment than how much the payment was.

So because they are playing in a group of four they shouldn't be allowed to read a putt? I don't agree with this, if anything if I'm in a group of four I feel bad for the guys that rush their putts and end up 3 putting (which takes at least as long as sizing up and 1-2 putting).

Now if the group is responsible they will play ready golf up to the green, and also let smaller groups that are getting held up play through.
groups of 5 or more shouldn't really be allowed, but if it's a course like LSU or Webb it's hard to expect courtesy like that

Oldest trick in the book. Nothing like the sound of your buddys new Taylor Made driver slamming into concrete.

Most have been mentioned

- Retired rent a cop patrolling course guy
- Hack waiting on par 5 2nd shot from 300 out guy
- Constant cursing guy
- Knock a 3 footer 4 feet past hole then miss a nonchalant backward swipe back at the hole and not count it guy

I also hate:

- Play the ball up on a perfectly manicured course guy

- Can I use your club guy

- I shot 77 but plays a lost ball as a lateral hazard guy
