Heading over to Atlanta on Saturday and looking for recommendations for where to play golf on Sunday. Looking to play a nice course and I am not paying, so I'm not worried about cost. Any help is appreciated. TIA.

I mean, Atlanta is pretty big. If you're on the north side of town - Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek is very nice. Though I don't know how tough it is to get a tee time.

We have 2 tee times on hold for non members but they cannot guarantee us our tee times until the end of the week. That place looks awesome! I'm just looking for something nice that we can count on.

Lots of the fancy clubs "in atlanta" are private. If you're willing to drive out a bit there are probably some good publics.

hata, jayhawk..help me out here bc I'm not 100% positive. Is chateau elan public? That's just a quick drive up 85 and it's obviously nice but can't remember if it's public. White columns in alpharetta is also pretty nice but it's a bit more of a drive and again idk if it's public.

private course.

Atlanta has incredible courses, the problem is they are almost all private.

There is a ton of golf 30+min outside the city. Inside the city you have Stone Mtn, Bobby Jones (both are OK)

Thanks. Sunday night, we are driving over to Augusta. So heading in that direction is not a bad thing for us. I will check these courses out on a map.

Chateau Elan at least has a course or two that is open to the public. Might have a private course as well.

I played most of my golf at Bradshaw farms and Marietta city club

I grew up playing Cedar Lake and trophy club of gwinnett, so I don't have much experience with many fancy pants courses.

I did play Chateau elan with a buddy a year or so ago and I'd definitely recommend, just couldn't remember if it was public or not. I'd recommend thta for OP if it is, since it's a good ocurse and it's an easy drive from the city.

When did AAC become semi-private?

It is not. One of the guys that is coming with us a member of a private golf club in Louisiana and his club put a call into their club. They apparently do this but it all depends on openings at the end of the week. If none of their members fill all of the tee times, we can play. if they do, we are out of luck there.

I always enjoyed Stone Mountain courses. They are heavily played public courses, but always seems to be in good shape, of course it has been a few years so who knows?

I second this. Played it back in 2012. The layout was great and the greens were really fast...11-12+ on the stimp.

good choice. Great course in a failed neighborhood. Kind of funny seeing the few multi-million dollar houses surrounded by empty lots. Have they ever gotten around to building a clubhouse? Last time I played there a year or so ago, they had some pretty good deals through Sam's Club as well.
