And let's start penalizing kickers that celebrate before their FG goes through the uprights at the end of the game, what do ya say

Or, when the whole freakin' team runs on the field to celebrate after a kneel down when there are still seconds on the clock. Can't have them celebrating that.

Is Glenn Dorsey's little celebration as extreme as the ones in the NFL? In my opinion not even close. Seeing a guy try to figure out some way to eat out of an invisible plate after every sack in the NFL is just plain dumb and has nothing to do with emotions just selfishness.

offending a handful of old white guys does not mean a game is out of control. Name one time where there was a legit problem, like fights on the field, or players getting hurt?

Was in the south endzone far as hell away.

The rule sucks when its enforced this strictly but a rule is a rule and you have to draw the line somewhere.

Just so we are clear on my stance, I don't mind penalizing taunting or excessive celebrations. What I do take exception to is the new rule that takes points off the board for something that in no way gives the scoring team an advantage in scoring the points.

and Dorsey doing his thing is also selfish. But, it doesn't hurt anyone, and it doesn't take away from the game.

Also a 15 yard penalty on the kickoff is a huge penalty in terms on field position. LSU might not have won the game if Georgia didn't get that penalty in 2009

Or if a team has to go for 2 to tie. The penalty the way it was already had a big enough impact. Now it's just absurd.

When it happened to USC, most on here laughed.

When it happened to LSU, the sky is falling. It's a conspiracy.

Taunting penalties are stupid but they have to do something because players feeds off of their stupid fans too.

We can't go back to the days of the U where the receiver would do a Salsa-Boogie after every first down.

It also doesn't give anything to the game either.

That's fair. Players doing the "can't see me", chest bump, and even a small high five doesn't add anything to the game. But, it doesn't hurt anyone.

It is clear that you don't like it. That is your opinion. But, penalizing a player for doing something that some old guys "don't like" is absurd. I have yet to see a college football celebration or taunt that I would deem "egregious", ever. There was no need to create a rule to fix something that wasn't broken.

Link...it was all over the game thread...or rant or something. Chuckles galore.

Why not?

Because they would get up from catching a stupid first down and start dancing and it would take forever and was a major disruption and you're like dude...you just caught a first down...calm the frick down...stop acting like you're dancing for the Super Bowl. Every little thing they did would interrupt the game into group celebration. Every sack, every hit, every first down.

Now, I am pretty sure most teams can't STOP all that. Teams will get a first down every once and awhile.

Oh no I'm not in favor of the rule either. Just in my mind guys who are put in the national spotlight to do a celebration to get everyone to look at them is selfish and childish. He's a professional athlete he should act like it.

I'd say the Miami stuff of the past was a little over the top but in today's college game there isn't anything close to that and as was stated before the previous penalty of 15 yards on the kickoff or extra point is a big game changer.

I'm waffling - overall I think being able to penalize teams for unsportsmanlike conduct is good because it prevents escalation and fights before they happen

But if the penalties are called inconsistently I have a problem with it... Officials can probably cover themselves for this by going to the head coaches and warning them they will be called for unsportsmanlike conduct if they see signs of escalation (but even then it can be hard to apply the rule fairly)

Yeah except not and it annoyed the frick out of me as a kid watching the games live on TV...can we get back to the game Michael?

I doubt a lot of posters on here saw most of the games live (a full game and you would see it after every first down catch) and simply have gained their opinions through some documentary they saw.

the same posters that are against it or different posters? I was unaware that i must abide by a board consensus. I have always been against asinine celebration penalties.

really, forever? Then they should have gotten a delay of game penalty.

unsportsmanlike conduct

This phrase should be removed completely. Have penalties for "throwing a punch", "headbutting", "fighting", "giving him the business", etc. But, there is zero reason to give the referees a generic phrase that they can use whenever they feel like it.
