We’ve got a more thorough drug-testing program than the NFL or MLB, which we always brag about. But we’ve still got a drug issue, though a different one than thirty years ago. And this one bothers me more than the dumbasses who got in trouble with recreational drugs.

I’m talking about performance-enhancing drugs—like steroids, human growth hormone, and so on. It’s obvious some of our players are doping. How are some guys getting older—yet thinner and fitter? How are they recovering from injuries so fast? Why the hell are they going to Germany in the off-season? I doubt it’s for the sauerkraut.

More likely it’s for the newest, hard-to-detect blood boosters and PEDs they have in Europe. Unfortunately, drug testing always seems to be a couple steps behind drug hiding. Lance Armstrong never failed a drug test. I think we want the best athletes to succeed, not the biggest, richest cheaters employing the best scientists. But I don’t know what to do about it.

He is right and baseball is the same way

Mike Trout wasn't a power hitter in the minors, for example

Jake Arrieta too. Nobody in the majors, sucked with Baltimore, all of a sudden great pitcher.

Guys are getting thinner as they get older by choice. They have learned that to extend their career they have to shed weight. Tim Duncan, for example, was much thinner later in his career because he made a conscious effort to shed weight to extend his career.

As for going to Germany, players go there to recover from injury. They do some kind of recovery there that isn't available in the U.S. I'm not sure if they aren't allowed to do it, but it's not exactly a secret.

Edit: Did some research. This is why players go to Germany:

Orthokine is an experimental medical procedure in which a patient's own blood is extracted, manipulated, and then reintroduced to the body as an anti-inflammatory drug to reduce chronic pain and osteoarthritis.

wait, you mean those lanky Bball players in HS and college, and are now muscle bound, were on the juice?

No way, next thing you will tell me is that the NFL is loaded with juicers.

The only way he could have been more obvious is if he titled that paragraph..." Take for instance Kobe."

I mean, you can see players who are late in their career are not as in shape as they used to be. Look at Kobe later in his career. Vince Carter. Jordan. Mutombo. Etc. They all get softer.

Funny he didn't feel a need to report the rampant PED problem to the league offices when he was benefiting from it, only now in his book when again he stands to benefit from it.

George Karl's a good coach but he's proving himself to be a slimy guy.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but IDGAF if pro athletes juice or not. Hell, I assume they do. Doesn't diminish my appreciation of their sports one iota. Sorry.
