Today seems a good day to repost this 1983 Frontline Report on the NFL and gambling.

Also look up what happened to the Journalist who did the story!

Ignore the man behind the curtain!!!!

Did the 5th best team in the playoffs magically beat the Bill's, ravens, and 49ers?

Or was the allure of 8 year old girls and their moms watching TS and the superbowl more appealing than a bills/lions superbowl?

She died in a single car accident 9 months later.

The NFL was created for gambling purposes...and with gambling comes rigging or influencing outcomes for better storylines.

Paul Hornung and Alex Karras must've missed that memo.

Here’s what we can take from this:

Even if true, the NFL has actually just exploded in popularity since then.

If the reporter was taken out because of the story, that seems really unnecessary in hindsight.

I doubt that we will ever really know if there are true ties between the gambling industry and NFL outcomes.

Damn. Nobody dies in car accidents, especially in 1983.

Yeah the league that has existed for over a 100 years only came into existence for gambling purposes. Because people didn’t need a distraction from the Great War or Spanish Flu or anything.

And yet without a shred of evidence you believe a God sits up in the clouds and watches over you every single day.

What a fascinating dichotomy.

The NFL was instituted in 1921. How in the blue frick does that correlate? That was in the heart of the Prohibition era and you think that the NFL was formed for gambling purposes. :

Jesus you people are nothing if not persistent.

Yes, yes they did.

And they may have been the 5th best record wise, but they have the best QB on the planet. It's not hard to figure out, but let's just go with "mUh, rIgGeD."

How do some of you people dress yourself in the morning?

Pretty odd take based on what I posted, but okay.

those dumbasses all fail to notice that rather than 1st and 10, it was 2nd and short. you can see the original first down spot marker about 10 yards behind him when mahomes rolls out.

the tv said the play before was a first down, but it wasn't

2nd & 1 at KC 34
(1:37 - 4th) (No Huddle, Shotgun) P.Mahomes scrambles right end ran ob at KC 37 for 3 yards (F.Warner).

this describes most of these convoluted conspiracy theories, they miss the big picture
