Its one of the reasons I love baseball, there is always something happening that is rare or has never been accomplished. In this case, no one has ever recorded this stat line in the history of the game. (Technically according to fangraphs it only goes to 1913 but no one was striking out 10 guys in 6 innings pre 1913)

5BB and 10K?

No wonder he only lasted 6 innings even with only 3 hits and 0 runs. What was his pitch count?

We should protect this record and include the humidity, the time he was removed, and what color socks he was wearing

you can come up with "for the first time in history" type stuff in every sport. baseball guys have to always point out stuff like this though, because how else are you going to make regular season baseball seem interesting.

He was starting to labor pretty good in the 6th too. Loaded the bases w/ 2 walks and single, and got a pop up and fielder's choice to get out of the jam.

Had he looked stronger they probably would have let him come out for the 7th since his spot in the lineup wasn't due up for a while, but I gotta think the cold plus it being the opener led to a little less stamina than normal.

I was there, and everyone in my section wondered if Hurdle would pull him or not, since the normal middle inning set up man (Jared Hughes) is on the DL. He probably made the right move.

If someone told me Liriano posted that line multiple times before, I would have believed them.

They are the only one paying attention, not to mention no one has the amount of history or games played as MLB.

Same for what happened to Felix, first time in his career that he pitched 5+ innings, gave up 1 hit or less and got the loss. Seems like that would happen all the time with the mariners.

Absolutely not saying that factoid is wrong, but it blows my mind that in 100+ years of stat keeping nobody has recorded that particular line. It's not like it's that extraordinary really on the face of it.

no one is going to allow a pitcher to throw many more than 100 pitches in their first start of the season unless they're throwing a no hitter
