I know golf players get "salaries" from companies that they endorse but I'm not exactly sure what the difference is as far as this breakdown goes

edit: phil has won 2.2 mill and Spieth as won 4 mill from tournaments so I have no idea where they get salary numbers from

If soccer is the most popular sport in the world and Ronaldo is the most recognizeable athlete in the world how is his endorsement salary(and Messi's) so low compared to other athletes?

I would say their inability to speak English fluently plays a large role. There's a lot more money to made pitching products in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Canada than there is in Spain and the Latin American countries.

I feel ignorant on this, but how do you differentiate "pay" from "salary/winnings" for things like tennis and golf? In team sports, you're paid by the team/owner. Whose payroll is Federer/Mickelson/etc. o
Pay looks to be the total of endorsements and salary/winnings.

Harper and Trout make a salary. Spieth has winnings. Fed and Mickelson make their money through endorsements and winning tournaments.

I don't know why I explained that. I know you already understand...probably just had a brain fart

When you think of basketball, you think of two current players: LeBron and Steph.

When you think golf, you think Woods, Spieth, Phil.

When you think of tennis, you think of: Fed, Nadal, Murray, Djoke.

When you think of soccer, you think of: CR, Messi, Rooney, Ibra, Bale, Neymar, and countless other players. It is a global sport, and there is much more competition for stardom dominance seeing as how there are so many leagues/countries that participate.

That's what I'm saying, Spieth has won 4 million this year, I'm just curious what the other 16 mill in salaries is from if there is also an Endorsements category

Those numbers likely come from a 365 day period as opposed to the start of 2016. Here is an excerpt about his 2015 tour year earnings (God damn why could I not have been a better golfer!):

Including the $10 million from the FedEx Cup bonus, here’s the breakdown for Spieth’s financial year (via Jamie Kennedy):

• Won $22,030,465

• Earned $881,219 per event

• Made $259,346 per round

• Received $13,908 per hole

• Was paid $3,623 per shot

3. Soccer (Knocked down a few pegs due to absurd European Taxes)

Pretty sure some of the soccer salaries there reported are post-tax (whether paid by the club or paid in home country which usually means not at all).

In the past year he's broken the record for most money won in a season. I'm sure some of that is going towards the numbers we see in the chart.

There's a glaring difference in Cam's endorsement money compared to the rest of the top 10. It's because he's black isn't it?

Pay is just the sum of winnings and endorsements. The winnings are paid by the tournaments.
