The Lakers had some lows that were much worse and missed the playoffs a few times too, thus Duncan gets the nod for the better career.
how does one player get blamed for the organization being unstable as hell? Put kobe with the spurs organization and put Duncan with the laker organization and it's not like things change

He won 12 straight tourneys at one point. If he is not top 3, he is def top 5.

no, he's not anywhere close to top 5 ... no ranking has nelson in the top 5, or even close ...

Who.the.frick.cares.

I also don't care about UCLA's basketball streak. You probably think it's the greatest thing ever and no team now is good because they'll never beat it. I don't respect many sports accomplishments from back in the day.

Sure all washed up at 23

Dumbass

What does comparing him to tiger accomplish anyway? That doesn't answer how he compares to the goat.

Speith's competition ia a lot better. Never will there be as lame a top 10 as in tiger's era again

Those people who said this were just trying to get ahead of the crowd and predict something big and maybe have a chance to be right 10 years from now

I was using my point to fall in the "don't have to have it to be great" argument, I just did a poor job of articulating it by no means was I ragging the record. hell I'm on team Tiger GOAT

I think Tiger would have between 8-12 majors if his career started in the last 5 or 6 years. I have no doubt that some of these guys would snipe the shite out of some of his majors.

Spieth obviously isn't Tiger. But it isn't because of this silly cut stat. He could miss the cut for a year straight, but if he gets the wins in his career, he gets em.

And Tiger wasn't facing completion like this.

Majors aren't everything, but it looks like Spieth will win a shite ton of em.

And while Spieth can't match Tiger for this stage of his career, perhaps he could outlast Tiger by not becoming a whore-controlled head case.

wasn't some of that during ww2? hell, everyone else in the world was in the military or dodging bombs. he was a great golfer tho.

I am one that believes it's not possible to accurately compare players of different eras in pretty much any sport. no way could anyone will 11 straight tournaments with the fields of today. in the mid 20th century there weren't many pros, period. the crème was great, probably could be winners today also; there just weren't many of them.

This thread reminds me of "the Spurz will sweep the Thunder" after game one.

Because I either can't figure out how good they were/weren't, or I know that they weren't shite compared to what people do now. The UCLA men's basketball streak is a good example. It doesn't impress me in the least.

I don't really want to get that sidetracked in this thread, but when comparing a player's career I think it is worth noting the type of guys who wanted to play with them and what they did within their teams. If Shaq stays with Kobe they're unbeatable for years, but Kobe drove a wedge in that and Shaq left. It's not a knock on Kobe the player, but in the context of his entire career against Duncan's, it is going to hurt. Duncan's demeanor helps. Duncan's flexibility with respect to his pay helps. etc.

his big year when he won 11 straight was '45 ... i don't know who was or was not playing, but 11 straight in golf is impressive, no matter the level of competition, as you say ... anyone who thinks that's not an impressive streak (and nicklaus and tiger will be the first to tell someone that's as impressive as just about anything in golf) just doesn't understand golf, imo ... snead and hogan played that year, though hogan wasn't "hogan" at the time ... nelson averaged 68.33 for the year, second lowest ever, and golf is a sport where the golfer's score is against the course instead of against another golfer, in most cases ... and he won by an avg of 6 or 7 strokes ... and he won 52 tournaments in an 11 year career, retiring very early because he hated to travel and wanted to buy a big ranch and sit back and chill ...

If you had the best golfers, of every era, and they all played their a game, Tiger would win. Tiger in his prime is the greatest golfer to ever live.
