You know McLaren is in trouble when their star driver is skipping out on the sport's premier event.

Well their car is hot garbage so he knows he isn't missing out on a chance to win a race

I mean if my choices are race my heart out and finish 15th at Monaco or race my heart out and maybe win the fricking Indy 500, I'm booking a flight to Indianapolis.

Does he have any Indy experience, or just wants to try it?

None. But he's serious about it. He's stated he wants to win the triple crown before he retires....Monaco, Indy 500 and Le Mans

Who has done that? Graham Hill, maybe?

Mario tried like hell, but never could win Le Mans.

Good for Alonso. To bad no one in America know who he is.

If Rossi won it Alonso can dominate it.

An alternative definition replaces the Monaco Grand Prix with the Formula One World Championship

This seems to make more sense.

The person closest to doing it right now is actually Juan Pablo Montoya. If he would leave Nascar, I would think he would have a decent shot with the right team at winning Le Mans.

Holy shite. I had no clue. I loved him a lot in his first Indy Car stint into his F1 days, but lost interest in him once he went to Nascar. He should definitely do Le Mans though.

Why are they the same day now? It's impossible for anyone to win the triple crown.

This is a pretty big deal. I applaud Alonso for tackling it. Kurt Busch came in cold and ran 6th or so a few years ago, so Alonso could do okay. But it's a long race with a million ways to screw up, so expectations should be modest.

I remember when Michael Schumacher was on 60 Minutes at the height of his success. They asked if he would ever try Indy. He quickly said no, it's far too dangerous.

JPM never won a F1 championship. And I don't see any team taking g a shot on him in F1 again.

Monaco, Indy, Le Mans.

F1 title isn't involved here.

Can't fault him for it. McLaren sucks.

Pretty crazy imo how hard the fell off over the last 5 or so years.

Not surprising for top tier teams to fall back a little and stay around 2-3 for a period of time, but McLaren in middle of the pack at best right now.

Everyone has a down cycle, but you almost thought McLaren was immune.

It's the crown jewel race in 3 different series so a F1 championship would definitely not make sense. The Daytona 500 would tho.
