Yep.

You should report it asap to the coach and go from there. The kid that got hit or some other kid is going to say something about it and it is gonna come back and bite you in the arse if you don't do something about it.

That dude shouldn't be on the field!

Call the police.

For real. That could ruin a kid. So messed up.

Not as easy when you are in a similar situation and you have no idea what to do...

What?

No that was a very easy situation, break it up, grab the kid and call the police.

You need to go to the principal, AD, or someone who oversees the coach. This is a no-brainer.

And yes, you should tell the principle. Hell, if they didn't do anything, I'd resign. Nothing will ruin your reputation faster than being associated with child abuse.

Yeah, that'd almost certainly be a firing offense dealing with Pro or college players, doing it to an 8th grader is child abuse, I had coaches yell at me or grab a facemask, but full on tackling a kid (and it is a kid in 8th grade) not a slow tackle to demonstrate technique but an actual tackle-- that's a no second chances type of thing and possibly a call the cops thing.

Actually depending on what state you're in, you may need to call the cops-- as a youth sports coach I think you're a mandatory reporter and if the kids parents get involved (and frankly they should) you need to have reported to protect yourself.

Can we point out that a guy who voluntarily works with children posts on a message board with the name "Dick Leverage"?

Seriously, someone who snaps like that doesn't need to be in a stressful job much less in a stressful job around kids. Honestly, its almost more troubling that this isn't a coach who shouts or grabs facemasks all the time or whatever-- snapping out of the blue is one of those things where if the guy ever did something really, really wrong we'd all look back and go "man, probably should have seen that as a sign."

You need to report this to the HC and principal immediately. Not tomorrow, not next week. The kids are looking to you to be the adult. All of those kids will remember that you didnt stand up for what was right.

hmm... do I go to the police after the HC does nothing upon my informing him that I caught his old arse DC diddling a kid in the shower or do I stay quiet and accept a higher paying coaching position at the school and pretend like nothing happened?

such a tough decision to make...
