I don't see where this was a "NFL incident" in the first place. This was between Farve and Strenger...not a NFL problem.

Sterger was an employee of an NFL team, the Jets, at the time of the incident(s) and the league has long taken a stance that it can fine and/or suspend players for actions detrimental to the league.

Granted, actions against a player for sexual harassment is a very rare case, but there is precedent for it. The big one is the Lisa Olson case from the early 90s in which there was a big stink about how Patriots players acted around her in the locker room during post-game interview time. The league ended up fining Patriots players and management around $80K in total.

NEW YORK -- Brett Favre has been fined $50,000 by the NFL for a "failure to cooperate" with the investigation into allegations he sent inappropriate messages and lewd photos to former New York Jets game-day hostess Jenn Sterger.

This is not a punishment for sending picks of t-favre to Jenn

what happens if he tells the NFL he's not paying?

I'm sure the Vikings deduct the $ from Favre's next paycheck. The players don't write checks when they're fined. If Favre takes the "I'm not paying" stance, he's going to have to fight the NFL for it himself.

Not sure I'd put this in the same list as Kobe & Big Ben...Farve just sent nude photos, the others went a little further than that.

And the Vick situation was just between him and the dogs. The league pursues issues all the time that have no immediate bearing upon a player's relationship with the NFL.

Favre shouldn't pay it, and send Goodell dick pics, IMO.
That would be awesome.

If Brett Favre went to Burger King, it would be on ESPN.
