Maybe I just got bored of it after hearing him say it every time the Spurs made a 3, which was like 30 times a game.

Those guys were so beloved and so important for fandom, imo. When I was younger, I had a much older cousin in the Army (proud to say he won the sword at UT which you probably know is a big fricking deal). Anyways, when he was stationed overseas he asked me to record Jon Ward for him on my radio/tape recorder. By the time those tapes reached him, they were probably a week or two old (maybe more - we're talking 90s mail delivery) but he listened to every one even though he'd known the outcome for ages.

There was something special about listening to those guys with the radio turned up and the tv muted - I'm glad you got to experience that too.
