Family members say Laura Turek was enjoying the July 6th Brewers game vs. the Atlanta Braves when she was struck in the face by a foul ball. She will now likely spend the rest of her life recovering.
quote:

Laura Turek, a single mother, is going to need multiple surgeries and is suffering from skull fractures, nerve damage and vision loss in one eye.

“There were 40,000 people in the Brewers stadium that night. If all of those people donated $5, it would cover her medical expenses completely,” Alyssa Turek said.
quote:

“She went to the game as a fan and left as a fan. They aren`t liable, and she knows that. She was aware of the risks she took sitting in those seats,” Alyssa Turek said.

Turek has been on leave from work, and she isn’t expected to return anytime soon. Insurance is only expected to pay a fraction of the more than $200,000 in medical bills.

Is this fair or foul?

Having been to one baseball game in my life, wouldn't you be mindful of the ball when it's hit? I was quite engaged whenever the ball was thrown/hit when I watched in Korea.

It's easy to be distracted.. If you're keeping score, reading something, looking at the scoreboard or any other number of things.

Perfectly fair. I see no issue with it.

I'm perfectly fine with the family seeking donations to help cover their expenses.

I'm also perfectly fine with people deciding they don't want (nor are obligated in any way) to donate to it.

What ever happened to that woman that took the broken bat to the face a couple months back? That was at Fenway wasn't it?

I'm perfectly fine with it, and I am happy that the family realizes there is nobody to sue. It was a freak thing and bad luck. If people want to help her out with the bills, great.

Judging by that tattoo she prob will give the ball a few chances for striking her in face and says the ball was drunk and didnt mean it and normally not like that

The injuries were not as severe as they originally thought and she was released from the hospital 3 days later in good condition.

I hope the best for her recovery. It's easy to say we would have defended ourselves, but how often do you just happen to not be paying attention on occasion? It happens and I feel bad for her. Maybe the Brewers will help out, not that it is their duty though.

The fact that she accepted the "blame" speaks volumes about her character.

If I were the teams owner I would just cut her a small check for $500k. Probably could be a write off as well.

This, or at least volunteer to pay for the medical bills.

I think that sets a dangerous precedent. Maybe they can donate some money anonymously, but I wouldn't flat out pay them.
