Lebron has a skillset that is not normal for his size.

He could play well into his 40's

Will Lebron finish as the NBA's all time leading scorer? He's got 19,045 points through 9 years, with an average of 27.6ppg. Jabbar currently leads with 38,387 points.

What do y'all think?

When Kobe scored 80, sportswriters said it was bigger than Wilt's 100.

The reasoning?

Being a center in the 60's-80's and scoring a shite ton of points was not as hard as being a non-center in the post-90's era.

Just some food for thought.

So, I take it you think he'll break Jabbar's record?

ETA: Lebron would have to play another 10 years, average 25.8ppg & average at least 75 games a year over that span to break the record.

I think if he played into his 40's, he could just.

I don't know.

If he played in Kareem's era? Probably.

I came up with this, hope my math is right

Lebron would have to play another 10 years, average 25.8ppg & average at least 75 games a year over that span to break the record.

so his career would have to be as long as Kareem's to get to that?

Kareem played 19 seasons. LBJ has been in the league 9.

Not to mention the era, etc.

I also don't know if I can call Kareem better than Jordan or Shaq just because he scored more career points.

Oh no, I think you have me mistaken. I don't think Jabbar is better just because he scored more. I was curious how far off Lebron was from the record. If anyone has a legit shot its him(maybe Durant?) ,especially since he's been in the league since 18. It was more of a "can break a long standing record" thing.

I don't think it's that far-fetched....

As is the case within any question related to where Lebron ranks on an all-time list, it's just too early to tell. LeBron has the potential to be #2, I will agree with that. I just don't think he'll be able to surpass Jordan, but with more seasons and Finals series like this, his legacy will be great.

Right now though, I'd say talent-wise one of the greats already, but career wise he needs a few more years.

Not even close yet. Here are his numbers in last year's finals.

18 ppg
7 rebounds
7 assists

And that doesn't even include his dreadful final 5 minutes of games and 4th quarters where he was terrible.

James was fantastic this year, but he has to do it more than once.

I think we tend to get caught up in the moment and forget what freak athletes some of the greater in the past were. Lebron is best in NBA right now but people just casually throw him up at #2 get caught up in the moment.
Prime shaq was so dominant. And he did it in this error....the excuse everyone uses is lebron would score more back in the day...ok..then add 10 ppg to shaq in 2000 and I would cum.
If shaq could make fts the league would have retired his number.
I mean even Malone avg over 25 ppg for 11 years.those are monster numbers.
Lebron will be an all time great but to casually throw him top 5 already just seems caught up

Lebron puts up Oscar Robertson numbers in today's game. I just don't know if there is anyone else with that sort of skill set in the history of the NBA. He is just too young to be acknowledged as a top 2 guy. But, he could be when it is all said and done. What can't the guy do well? He can play pretty much any position on Offense or Defense and do it at an all star level. He can shoot 3s, he can drive, he can hit the midrange, he can pass, he can rebound. Up until this point you could question his leadership, but now that is gone IMO. I just don't know who in the history of the league would bring more to the table then Lebron? Again, I do think he is too young to be crowned anything but that will change.
