ESPN's NFL Draft Coverage Was a Disaster

I was watching the Draft last night and my GF only has basic cable, so I had to watch ESPN and only ESPN if I wanted to see it. So, I hunkered and prepared for the worst. I didn't prepare enough.
I always thought the mechanics of "on the clock" meant you have 7 minutes from the time the previous pick is made to submit your pick. Previous pick is made, boom now get to work. I feel like I never saw the clock. It went more like previous pick > next team on the clock > pick is in > wait eleventy minutes.
It felt boring to me. This should be something kind of exciting, but I felt like with all the crap on screen, all the stupid music, all the lights, all the waiting and annoying commentary that was really empty and shallow, it was just boring.
I feel like I can't complain without offering solutions. So, here goes.
If the Draft was supposedly shortened to make it more watchable, last night was a miserable example of the effectiveness of that plan. I like that it's a spectacle, but it needs to be dialed down for Round 1.
1. Less people on set. I really just need a decent anchor for intros, etc...give me SVP. Chris Berman is awful. Give me Gruden...give me Schefter. I don't need anything else. Also, if we are going to have people on the set talking about picks and how they fit into their teams, can we at least get guys on that actually know something about the teams?
2. We don't need two minutes of intro music.
3. When the pick is in, get the goddamn pick in. It had to be milked...the pick would be submitted, but we have to wait so (kissable) Suzy Colber can ask some kid stupid questions about how it feels to become a millionaire. WE DON'T CARE!
I just think overall the coverage was just a bucket of confetti thrown in our faces and it just ended up being a pile of awful.
ETA: WHERE WAS THE JINGLE?!

It was very boring and took longer than I expected. Left the draft party after the Saints first pick.

Holy Jesus that's a lot of complaining. It's the draft. Just enjoy it man.

This isn't ESPN's fault. NFL network also had to wait for TV purposes.

ESPN hates LSU and the draft

I agree. It was awful.
I feel like it would be so much better if they did the actual picking/trading the day before or whenever, then all they would have to on "draft day" would announce the picks.
The players still wouldn't know, but everything would already be settled so we wouldn't have so much time between picks.

Berman on set & Kolber interviews were the only 2 things I thought were terrible last night.

I know and that is unfortunate

But one of the redeeming qualities of the Draft is the it is done on the fly, for the most part.

honestly, I kept reading Twitter and looking around at all the comments on the Saints Board and some from this board.
I don't really care for the commentary from either network. What are they going to say that they haven't said in the last few months? Not a lot of difference in my opinion.
Louis Riddick was okay though for ESPN when I saw some of their coverage.
I guess.

I know
but 90% of it is incredibly boring from a viewers perspective and there isn't much else they can do to make it anymore interesting

There's a lot they can do. Starting with less is more.

I could have sworn they said "we are going commercial free" after the Mariota pick

It used to be really good, though. You would hear the little jingle (that they somehow got rid of), the commish would introduce the pick and then we'd get a graphic of the kid with his new colors and NFL logo and we'd see some game film and the experts would tell me what he does well and how he fits.
Now, it's pick is in....awkward waiting...Chris Berman says something....more waiting....I guess a commercial, right guys?...

the screen was way too crowded and they had too many commentators
but the actual draft...how are they going to make that more interesting?

Not having the jingle was a massive fail.
